Well looks like i have a lesson or so booked soon [ie, tomorrow evening] the company is IAM [Institute of Advanced Motoring] sure i have heard their name floating around before...
Thing was i didnt want to do evening driving -.-... oh well

Thats who I passed with. Heed their advice, it will make you a much better driver. The first night will likely be a lesson in a classroom, but everything after that should be drives out in your car on the weekends. You'll learn a lot.

Well, update on it all 
At this moment in time i have had about uhm, 7-8 lessons or so, each time theyre better than the previous one, im now losing many of my bad habits, which generally included things like crossing hands, [excessive] speeding etc... Just taking more control of it all.
Been trying to get to grips with the overlapping when cornering, one of the things i need practice on apparently, seems "the system" is just taking its time in coming through.
Still a long way off, but a lesson-per week for the next few months may well sort things out, just hope can get it sorted by around February March, just after the winter period

Blimey, I only had 5 lessons You're getting your money's worth!
Controlling speed when braking for a corner and then being in the correct gear is one of the most difficult bits (I found).
On a 90' left hand, say a side-road, you may find it easier if you brake for a point a couple of car lengths before the start of the corner. That gives you time to select the correct gear. Don't worry about the arseholes up your rear, thats their problem not yours.
One thing that may help in cornering is to get the position of the hands on the wheel in place before you get to the corner. For instance, if you're approaching a fairly tight left hand bend, theres nothing wrong with moving your hands clockwise slightly around the wheel before you get to the corner, so that when you're in the corner, your hands are automatically at the 10-2 position.
Probably the worst mistake I made on the test was not covering the brake, however thats something I've now fixed. They'll probably find a million faults when you do the test, and you'll shit yourself thinking you've failed, but they're really very helpful and unless you're a nutter you'll be ok. The observers won't put you forward until they think you're ready.

Year after this post was put up i just had my Advanced Driving Test
Passed it with flying colours by the looks of it, hardly a thing went wrong
Ah man.. So nice because i know that the important thing was that my dad would have wanted me to pass this more than anything, so excellent!

Yeahhh, i was given the Advanced Driving CD which was about the police and it had some Skidpan on it, i was sooo wanting to try that out when i seen it!
At the moment im re-considering my option of now keeping my BMW, i was in the process of going to sell it on, but its just such a nice car i would feel gutted if i got rid of it, the only reason i changed it was because the insurance as it stood was £1500ish... Im hoping the insurance can get dropped quite heavily but hm, i dont know
