Alright here is the story: I just got my DSL line connected today. It is advertized to be 640k download and 256k upload. I'm wondering why in the hell I'm only downloading in the low 20kb/sec range when I look at a download. What gives...I was expecting something around 60-80ish atleast. This is only like 3-4 times faster than my 56k connection. I'm not sure if I didn't set something up right...or if my isp is just screwed up. I'm running the Nortel Networks 1-meg Modem HSA into a Linksys wireless router. The router is physically conected to my dad's computer (running win98) via an ethernet cable and a Linksys NIC. I have a Linksys wireless pci card in my box (running winXP). The router and wireless stuff is set up correctly...I just don't know why it's so slow....maybe a software thing that I didnt' do right? The linksys software says my wireless connection and my signal quality are both excelent (100%). And just to be on the safe side I hooked up the modem straight to my dad's computer without the router and still got the same 20-30kb/sec download rates.
Ok so what are your thoughts?
Here are my system specs just incase they are needed:
AMD Athlon Thunderbird "AXIA" core 1ghz @ 1425mhz
Iwill KK266-R mobo
2x20 IBM Deskstars 60gxp's in raid 0
Leadtek Winfast 32mb GeForce2 GTS/Pro (det 23.11)
Linksys Wireless PCI card
384mb Crucial pc133 @ 150 mhz cas2 w/ 4 bank interleave
Modem is a Nortel Networks 1-Meg Modem HSA and the router is a Linksys 4 port wireless.
I know all the physical connetions are correct...but other than that I could use some help.
