Ok Shabs:

Download between 40-60 kbps (no Packet loss)

Pings on BW CS servers 35-70ms depending on rotation of the moon (or something).

Pings on BW Q3 servers 20-40ms.

Napster - OK. You can listen to music on the fly when downloading.

ICQ - fine.

MS Netmeeting - Video and voice - fine.

I just leave the thing connected all weekend (with a firewall of course) and don't worry about it.

Any other question - let me know.

Same here m8 :(

Mine's a private road. We'd probably have to get every resident to agree to it. No bloody chance :(

ok ta for the info everyone

I've been doing sum sums, the results of which are below (prices in £):

ISDN With bt net monthly fee (MF) = 39.99

ISDN With Netgames MF = 49.99

ADSL with bt, inc installation charge split over the year
= roughly £51.50 - £52.

:/

The whole reason i was gonna get adsl was because i use bt 24/7 and it really is quite poo sometimes - 3k dls and 250+ pings on isdn. :/ (hence the netgames comparison)

Hmmmm, i dunno what to do (and adsl all comes down to whether bt will install over a isdn line)

(and im only really looking at a years worth of extra service here)

hmmmm :/

You are gonna have real problems with BT in converting ISDN to ADSL.

They just won't do it.

My bro installed ISDN in April 2000 on a promise on the BTOW webby about an upgrade - but BT pulled the promise and now he has to see out his contract.

Yeah i know m8. :/

I asked them on the phone and they didnt want to give me an answer, instead talking around the subject.

Anyway, I thought about it and was just gonna stick with HH, and possibly get a netgames account.

Less faffing about that way - plus i have access to uni dl's anyway :p

hmmm 200k a sec :D

anyways, cheers all!

Hi. I have a 33.6 external modem (I know, slow as a snail), but for some reason it always connects at 28.8. Does NE1 know y?

Sure it's 33.6?

I've found out some modems that had in big letters "33.6 KBS MODEM!" and then... between lines, I'd find something like "28.8 modem - Firmware Upgradable to 33.6". Check it first, try to find an firmware upgrade or something.

Or, this could be a problem of your line. Here, in Portugal, it's common to find some lines that don't support 33.6 (users can get only 28.8 or 31.6), or even at 56kb (31.6 at the max).

Call your operator and ask them to do some tests. They must do it.

Well, i'm posotive it's a 33.6 modem, so i'll get some info about the line.

Thanx :)

My ADSL modem connects at 576000bps when I was told ADSL was connecting at 512000bps??

modems can't connect at 56k, something to do with the law. I believe the maximum "real" speed is 51k. Windows is known to give wrong informations about the connection speeds (like telling you're connected at 57600bps on a 56k modem, or something like that). If you want to know the real speed, download a little program called Analog-X (i think, or something like that. I'll search it and post it later)
