Hi, Ive been having huge problems siiince adsl got installed (see other thread down a bit - ADSL slower than 56k modem)
Well ive come up with what i think is the problem, but have no idea how to fix it. Thats where u clever ppl come in (hopefully).

I started gamespy up and it gave me a message saying
"youre computers internal ip address [10.12.9.193] is different from its externally known ip address [213.149.165.36]. This may be due to a firewall, NAT proxy or other unusual network configuration, and it prevents most games working properly as a host.

You will probably not be able to host any games unless you are the DMZ host on your network"

I understand what its saying sort of, but have no idea how to fix it, please help guys (and gals). maybey its something to do with my internet setup, but ill leave the decisions 2 u Pro's

Yours V Hopefully
Billy

I doubt its your internet setup unless you're running something strange.

well im not sure what strange is these days =8/
but my adsl line is always on, so i just make a sort of bogus 'new connection'from dial up networking, with any numbers for the phone, which connects me (at 640,000). I then open up explorer and go to my isp logon screen and log in, from there i can surf the net etc (all except play my soddin games GRRRRR).
in the dial up networking icon for my new connection, the properties under server types are:

only TCP/IP is ticked - under advanced it is set to server assigned IP

when im on explorer, under tools/internet options/connections it is set as follows:

settings is use a proxy server /advanced
http:www-proxy-la.cytanet.com.cy port 8080
http:ftp-proxy-la.cytanet.com.cy port 8080

and my ping is ARSE!!!

dude, imo you're fscked. you are in a large network that gets NAT'd to the outside world via some kind of portal thingy. unless you speak very sweetly to your ISP it won't change. ever. Aol used to operate just like this. You should be able to play games tho, but you will never ever be able to host a game, because the evential machine that connects you to the internet changes the IP number you're using to it's own IP number. it 'remembers' the connection you made, so when information comes back that is actually destined for your computer it routes the data back to you. end of story.
it's not a 'problem' or 'broken' it's just the way your ISP has set up it's network.
