Ok, a friend of mine is having trouble with a conexant a300 (or something like that) usb adsl modem. Before you say its crap etc, i know, but buying new hardware is out of the question.

Its one of these weird ones that connects the adsl, which it does fine and then in order to connect to the internet you need to run a dialup style connection entering the phone number as 000000 and entering username and password like this. Now the problem is that when he does this it comes up with a port error 761 or 781 (cant remember which). Ive searched the web but to no avail. Any help would be muchous apreciated.

He's running winxp on a fairly old box (p3 i think)

just a guess (not having XP).

Doesnt XP have its own port blocker which is preventing him from connecting?

Yes, if you open network connections (my computer), and right click the connection you use, I think its in advanced properties. By default, its disabled.

You sure it's 000000 as the dialup number. i know some are different but most connections using the dialup networking thing will use 0,38 (the vpi/vci numbers used in the UK) as the number they dial. Try that instead.
