The fear of heights, which I guess is normal, but some people get it bad.

My reaction is kinda strange and I can't find anyone who get's the same, if I look
down from height or even see someone on the telly near a big drop I get shooting pains up the back of my legs, it actually makes it to my bolax and they start to ache as well!!!!

I can turn the sensation on and off just by looking over the edge and then stepping back, it subsides after a few minutes, but will start up again after a break from the 'edge'.
I'll accept the ridicule to further my understanding.

Its not the height you want to be scared of, its the floor that will kill you when you hit it

vertigo isn't a fear of heights as such, it's a dizzyness that makes you feel like you're moving when you're not, usually a symptom of a fear of heights

Gohan's correct

From Wiki

Acrophobia is an extreme or irrational fear of heights.

Acrophobia sufferers can experience a panic attack in a high place and become too agitated to get themselves down safely

"Vertigo" is often used (incorrectly) to describe a fear of heights, but it is more accurately a spinning sensation that occurs when one is not actually spinning. It can be triggered by looking down from a high place, or by looking straight up at a high place or tall object, but this alone does not describe vertigo. True vertigo can be triggered by almost any type of movement (e.g. standing up, sitting down, walking) or change in visual perspective (e.g. squatting down, walking up or down stairs, looking out of the window of a moving car or train). Vertigo is qualified as height vertigo when referring to dizziness triggered by heights

Heights bother me.

I remember suffering a near full panic attack when going up a glass lift that was exposed to the outside. Oh my dear lord.

My Mrs could stand on the edge of a cliff, look down and marvel at the sight for hours, but put her 15ft up a ladder and she gets nervous. Wierd. Dunno....maybe because she knows the mountain aint gonna fall over?

I don't have a mad fear, I 've done loads of abseils, I just have to wait for the weird pains to subside, I'm guessing it's some primeval mechanism, like the muscles in the back of legs are tightening up to make sure I don't fall forward...weird.

Usually fear of heights and other phobias are treated through exposure, as part of a CBT treatment

I was shatting it pretty hard on those cliff edges in my photo thread. Used to be fearless for that sort of thing. Getting old :(

I had a serious fear of heights, until i climbed into a 1200ft(or some such) tower and stuck my head over the edge until i was fine :p

Still don't like heights, but not THAT problematic either.

You should go basejumping or bungee :)

Face your fears.. :) Dont think about what could go wrong. Think about what you're missing out on :)

If you're afraid of irl stuff, get a flying mount in wow and get cured there..
