accounting software

More and more of my clients are paying in dribs and drabs, which makes my system of accounts a bit of hard work.

Basically I do all my invoicing on Excel, mail an invoice off to the client, put a copy in a draw, and when it gets paid, I put that copy into a file. Paying in bits kind of upsets my system.

Can anybody recommend a good, simple accounting package, that will let me:

Make invoices
Track those invoices to a client 'account'
Let me tick invoices as paid or unpaid
Flag late payments

And possibly even apply late payment calculations?

I know this isn't the forum for this, but many of you work in a computer-business environment, and might have come across something suitable for my needs. A package that also lets me input monthly accounts would be nice, but I don't want any of that 'you cant delete mistakes on the ledger' crap.

Most commercial accounting software allows you do the all of the above.

I recommend Sage Accounting ro Quickbooks.

Sage Accounting seems to be the daddy according to my Accountant/Programmer friend, also my son's school use it and say it's very good.

Another one is Pegasus, my mother uses that one for bookkeeping jobs.

as a bean counter :| i suggest for a smallish business sage - it should cover most of what you require.

However any of the systems in that kinda grain would be oki - most of the problems I come across are when charts of accounts and posting rules are not set up as you would want them to be.
