Nothing has been deleted from day 1 of retail. A friend recently reactivated after 2 years.

The official time was/should be 6 months afaik, i wouldn't 100% assume they are too lazy to delete accounts tho

We don't delete accounts even if they have been inactive for a long time as there's no reason to do it and every reason not to.
As long as you had characters on the account when your subs expired, they will still be there when you resubscribe.

The 6 month limit is in the EULA or something because sometime the account/character db COULD get full... so they just reserve the right to delete them.

They have never done it in US/EU though.

Not sure where people get this 6 month limit from. I just re-read the Ts & Cs and the only thing I could find about it was this.
If your subscription is interrupted or terminated, GOA can not guarantee to maintain your player data should you take out a new subscription in the future.
We have just run a marketing drive aimed at bringing back players who stopped subscribing a long time ago, inviting them to try the game again. Some of these players haven't played since retail release so we certainly haven't purged the databases.

I deleted ambu at xmas, sent a email last week and the account was un-deleted in a few hours with all my stuff still on it. I was pretty impressed tbh with the whole service.

Hmm what marketing campaign .... never saw anything in the UK. Or you just didnt bother with the UK again so our servers continue to get less players ?

Such cynicism... You won't have heard about it unless you were one of the players involved as it was done by emailing them direct.
UK servers get the same marketing drives as the French and German servers.

I think the perception of UK players is that we are not as well looked after. Its not entirely unfounded.

And actually thinking about it, don't recall receiving an email to the old Roo account email addy, not that I'm thinking of reactivating, so hmm. Guess it didn't go to at least some UK players ;)

It went to people who hadn't subscribed for about 9 months or so and this would have been about a month ago so you probably hadn't been inactive long enough as Roo at the time.

Ah fair enough. Roo's been inactive for a few months now, but nowhere near that.

well i work in retail and guess what i know not one major franchise selling the game so how can we possibly get new peeps into the game when noone stocks it.try and find doac in uk on the high street is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.what you need to do as a company is advertise in all the mags and ensure your guys are pushing game to all major retailers.but hey thats just too easy.
game costs says £5 max to make offer sale or return policy to all retaliers you would surely make more money than you would would loose
i did the same with last album i made and i made a nice little wad of cash

I made a post a long time ago on this subject, you can find it here.
I don't work in marketing but we do push our product and we are looking at better distribution models.

That is good to hear, they need to offer that level of service to everyone and hopefully they are starting to realise that.

You need to offer online purchasing and then advertise it in the UK press for a month or two. The cost reduction in offering it as a download would more than offset your bandwidth and marketing costs. I know things can get tricky because with publishers but right now they are not even offering the game for sale in the UK anyway so I don't see how it can harm their business.

As for the online purchasing, this is one of the things we are looking at. It's not quite as simple as it might seem, there are technical issues, legal and contactual issues and logistical issues to overcome. I agree that all other things being equal it is probably the best way to offer the game for sale.

As for it not being available in the UK.
Here and here both have the game in stock and can ship immediately to the UK. High Street retailers are more focussed on stocking latest releases and maximising their limited display space by presenting big ticket, major titles. Niche products, especially ones that were released several years ago aren't on their re-order lists generally.

Well, that's good. Last two accounts I bought for people I had to resort to small Amazon marketplace resellers, because neither Play nor Amazon had it any more. Glad to see it being available again.

Shame u didn't include the people who didn't subscribe afeter the free month's trial, I know at least 4 people who may have taken a seccond look at the game given another free incentive. Most of the issues they had at the time have been resolved afaik.

Nice to see that Play and Amazon are stocking again, there were completely sold out for months. It good to see that GoA are at least thinking about an online purchasing system.

Requiel the point is, many people don't go out and look for daoc on amazon/play if they have never played the game before.
I personaly got the game because I saw it in a shop and at the time I wasn't in to MMORPG's and wasnt willing to buy things over the internet.

I went to get TOA on the day of release, my local GAME shop had ONE copy delivered to them, and that was quickly snatched up. They also had no classic/si with the TOA delivery so anybody who wanted to try daoc couldnt.
Surly it dosnt cost that much to stock 1/2 classics on the shelves :(

Also, offering a 7day free trial like the US would be a great idea. But let them play on the servers we play on, it's so pointless puting them on some empty server where theres no community, nobody to play with ect like you did with the other trial.
From playing the US i've seen SO much new blood because of the trial, if you don't have the statistics of US servers, you might want to ask for them or something ;).

so fortunately he gave me one of the spy accounts, so I could make a bot..phew had been looking for classic on the net for 5 hours...every online store I knew, every ebay or something similar, and at the normal stores...pfft, bunch of noobs, hadn't even heard about DAoC

Right but we don't tell Game/Woolworths/PC World/whoever how many copies they can have. They order as many as they think they're going to sell (actually they order a few less as it's easier to reorder than to return unsold stock). If your local store only had one copy, it's not because we were mean and refused to let them have any more, it's because they only ordered one copy.
