I have the above board(cant remember if its a raid one or not) and am currently running a Thunderbird 850mhz chip on the board, and i would like to know if i can just buy a Athlon XP chip, something like a 1600+, and slot it in and work?. Or do i have to buy a new syle abit board, kr7a i think it called in order to use a Xp chip?.

Ive had my current abit kt7 just over year if it matters.

Any advice welcome, or what would you recommed buying for around 200quid.

Well now, just hang on a minute...

If you have the ABIT KT7A V1.3 then you should be able to run an Athlon XP, provided you have a recent BIOS update.

Only the 1.3 version supports this, though and you can check by looking at the sticker which is on the side of the board's ISA slot. At the end of all the bumph it will say 1.3 or some other version.

(Incidentally I have a KT7A-RAID but sadly, mine is not 1.3 :()
