I posted some time ago about my hardware no boot problem, well I got my replacement motherboard back on Tuesday. I installed that day and put 2k on, NTFS partitions of course. Later that night my PC crashed, and on reboot after the "starting windows" bit just before the win2k logo picture startup thing, it gave me a blue screen stop error about acpi not being supported on my motherboard. After driving myself nuts over that I repaired my windows 2k install by pressing f7 at the start of setup which disabled acpi (the suggested fix by windows). It was fine all day yesterday after I did this, but last night it crashed again and upon rebooting the same error occured, even tho I disabled the installation of ACPI. So obviously pretty annoyed at it I ran out of ideas. So this morning I decided to try and put 98 on it as it doesnt do ACPI, I fdisked it all and made all disks fat32 and i formatted them, and ran windows 98 setup. It copied files and then asked me to reboot, upon reboot nothing happened and i had to run setup again, and it said copying files and i rebooted again and the same thing happened. So i thought id try and put 2k back on, so i fdisked the disks again, made them ntfs, then set about installing win2k without acpi again by pressing f7 at the start of setup. During copying the files it errored and couldnt copy the rest of the files, then gave me an IRQL stop error. i rebooted and tried to install again off my other win2k disk, same thing happened tho at a different stage in the file copying. I got another IRQL error so i went online on the ms site and found some potential fixes. One said press f5 at the start of setup when its detecting hardware and choose my category manually which i did, after that i did the f7 thing to get rid of acpi, and then after that i got another stop error, this time different again, this was the kmode something or other stop error, and now ive gone completely nuts and dont know what to do, its such a f00king pain.
Any ideas or ways to solve this would be nice, atm im on the phone to dabs to see if they will let me replace this mobo with another one, but im not totally sure its the motherboard thats causing all these problems ?
they seem to be getting progressively worse, the more i try to fix it the quicker it errors.
my comp spec is:
Abit kr7a-133 motherboard (non raid version)
xp 1900+
512 crucial ram (2 x 256)
two maxtor d740x 80gb ata 133 hdd's
plextor 40x cdrw
sb live
3com 3c905b-tx network card
enermax 431w psu
think thats it
im trying to install off a win2k service pack 2 pre installed copy of windows, ive also tried installing off my standard professional win2k cd, both failed to copy files when mentioned above.
ive tried xp too and that cocks up in a similar way.
there is a via patch that deals with acpi and xp out, but if i cant install 2k i cant get the patch installed, and that may not fix it, ive looked at possible bios flashes as well but they dont mention any acpi fixes, so i havent installed them yet, as dabs might not take it back if i do
not sure what else to put, if anyone needs further info to assist me then just ask.
just hope someone can give me some sort of advice to get the thing working again
thanks in advance for any help
