Abit KR7A-133 mobo prob!

Right, I got all me parts (finally) the other day and built my machine. However it wont boot.

Upon turning the machine on nothing happens bar fans/hdd's spinning up, then I get a small beep sequence (non repetetive) which then stops and then I get a repetetive beep sequence that doesnt end.

I've tried another gcard and I get the same problem, both GCards work fine in this (my old) machine however...

I have two 256mb ram chips, and I have alternated those in different slots and using one at a time, and still get the same problem. So I would think this would rule out the ram, I mean whats the chances of getting two bad chips of ram at the same time :/

The only thing it seems left to be is the mobo.. Any ideas ?

The exact spec of what I'm trying to boot this baby with is:

xp1900
2 x 256mb crucial pc2100
gainward gf4 ti4400 / creative gf256 ddr (changing makes no diff - still get no visual activity from the machine at all)
2 x maxtor d740x 80gb ata133 hdd's (alternated those also but I dunno what diff that would make)

The rest of the hardware is pretty irrelevant as plugged in or not it still does the same thing...

Tis really bugging me this, as I dont wanna have to remove my alpha from the CPU to send the mobo back if I dont have to :)

Got the HD's in proper configuration? (1 master 1 slave)

What Wattage is the PSU rated at?

Beeping used to mean the keyboard was locked somehow but doubt that's the problem.

Look up the beep code on Abit's website. That will tell you what the error is.

My KR7A-RAID did this but I found it was the memory....it takes a good push to get it properly seated.

The PSU is 431w, the hdds are in proper config, although I have tried just one on its own and variated those in every combination with no change.

Abit webby doesnt have the beep codes on there, and if it does I didnt find them so I'll go have another look, but if you know where they are gimmie a link :p

I'm pretty sure the ram is in ok embattle, its all clicked into place, but I will reseat it when I try and get it working again, hopefully that is the problem, but knowing my luck its gonna be a buggered mobo ;(

I personally doubt its that serious, Skyler. Beeping usually suggests no memory found or no display adapter found. Check these components are properly seated and (if possible) try a different card and memory stick.

Push it in the centre until the two clips pop up.

Tried different VGA card summo, same problem occurs....

I think the RAM is definitely seated properly emb, its all clipped in and comfy :)

Ta for that URL grey, but it doesnt have my beep code on there (award bios). Well, from what it states on the webby in the way of beep codes it seems to suggest ram, but I cant see it being ram, as I have two chips, and the chances of both going wrong together are pretty slim :/

You only need one duff one to cause the beeps (as I found out). Have you tried one stick at a time?

Yes I have tried one stick at a time. Doesnt seem to make a difference, I'm gonna try every single slot/ram combo later today.

But other than that I'm completely stumped, I really need to try the ram in a different PC, and/or try some different ram in this new PC :)
