Abit AT7 MAX non-legacy motherboard

Check out this review of the upcoming Abit mobo based on VIA's all singing all dancing KT333 chipset, it has _no_ PS2, Serial or Parallel ports, but it has onboard Firewire and USB 2.0 ports (as well as onboard sound, LAN and RAID) !

Four banks of 333Mhz DDR goodness - yummy !

However, I have serious doubts about this non-legacy, I use a USB keyboard and I often remember having to resort to a PS2 because some Windows driver update requires the USB bridge driver to reinstall. Think about it, Windows asks you for the USB bridge driver, but you can't use the USB keyboard to answer because there is no USB bridge driver !

That keyboard thing gets me everytime so I used a usb-->PS2 converter to get around it...This new MOBO sounds great..I guess they'll have some BIOS solution for USB keyboards...think my Gigabyte one does something along those lines as well.

I read about this a while ago and had the same concerns. "If it ain't broke..."

I don't really see how having PS2 and serial ports (even if they're just there as backup) is really holding back mobo technology.

I remain sceptical.
