a7n8x doesn't recognise full cpu

Last night i slapped together an a7n8x with an xp 2700, which windows xp only recognises as 1.03ghz.
Is this remedied in the bios?
I need to get it up to full speed when i get home from work, so any pointers would be good.

I have no idea if the dog picture answered your question, but if not:

When you boot up the processor speed should be displayed (above the memory test). If this is incorrect then go into the BIOS (usually <DEL> or <F1> from that first screen, it will say which on the bottom line) and there will be a set up option detailing the speed. You should be able to choose from a selection of presets or manually choosing voltages if the CPU isn't covered.

No problem :) It does sound like a BIOS issue, though. Be sure to let us all know how you get on.

Kind Regards

Or if, for example, someone had their board set to failsafe default.

Also , check which version of the board it is. You dont want <2.00

Most mobo will start out on its lowest settings, this helps silly people not fry their processors ;)

They also tend to default back to this if an error occurs during OCing.

Official Asus info:
Starting from PCB version 2.0, The A7N8X motherboard supports Front Side Bus
(FSB) 400. The PCB (Printed Circuit Board) version is located beside the
motherboard name printed on the motherboard. PCB 2.0 BIOS version or later are not compatible with PCB 1.06 or earlier BIOS versions.

It looks like someone has their FSB set to 100 instead of 166 (x2)

Isnt an XP2700+ supposed to be at 13x166??? (2158Mhz)

Depends which way you look at it. Some may say that your FSB is somewhat overclocked, which it is.

Others may say you got it a tad underclocked seeing at you have it running at 2030 Mhz and the default clock speed is 2158 Mhz :D

Youd be better off putting it at 13x166 and then if you still want to overclock it, slowly increase your FSB speed from there. Once it starts becoming unstable or refuses to Post, you can increase your Vcore voltage slightly. Dont put it too high because you'll burn out the chip quickly.

just set it to 13x202 and see what happens* ;);)

*may not be a good idea :)
