Larges pathc I've dl'ed on 56k was 120~ meg I think, just patch it during hte night and when you wake up it's not long to go, only an hour or two. ;p On 26 mbit now though so no more problems with that for me \o/ But I do feel sorry for you and I know how annoying it is to be on 56k ;I

If you can't stand the fact that you might have to download big patches (patches include loads of files, so they can be quite big), why are you actually playing daoc? You know patches can include new graphics and stuff, which tend to be quite big files, atleast sometimes?

You think daoc patches are a pain in the ass to download? try Horizons. There you might have to dl a lot of updated files everyday and the patching server is kinda slow...

Patch downloads can be resumed y'know. :D

More to the point, this patch isn't Frontiers. Frontiers is 1.70 - this is 1.69. And if your DLing the patch which contains DF then you've still got shit loads to go because you seem to be missing over a years worth of patches and such :D

With normal patches, you don't have to restart all over if you lose the connection. One file downloaded is one file downloaded, even if the next one fails due to a disconnect.

However, with the New Frontiers patch it will be one big file to get. As far as I am aware GoA distributes this in various forms. One is a (huge) download from their site, others is frontcover CD's on certain PC magazines. Perhaps that's an option for those with third world connections.

Alternatively, I'll bet someone puts up a BitTorrent of the NF installer. With a good BT client you can continue where you disconnected, thus allowing people with ISP's like FreeServe to get it all even with a download longer than 2 hours.

I dont know if anything in the patchprocess changed over the last years but when the first update went live on Europe a lot of peeps had huge problems downloading it - outtimed connections, etcetc.

Think there was a 10MB patch involved and everytime I logged in and started the updater it barely managed to download a few 100k at best.

On the bright side: I didnt have to restart the download on a new login. Each time the download was automatically resumed at the point where the con went down. So even if it takes you more than a couple of hours and several reconnects to d/l it - I still wouldnt be worried :)

Yet another "cater for meh or Ill quit" thread. I feel for the plight of 56k'ers, but come on, theres little more GOA can do. Oh and BTW, the patcher system is created by MYTHIC so theres no point shouting at GOA. The player base wont be affected, so please drop the "Ill quit!" crap, cause we both know you wont :p

As stated, its resumable, so you wont be restarting the DL each time you discon. Some games patchers are not, and DAoC doesnt do patches as large or as often as most games in the genre, like SWG or Horizons. We do have it good to be realistic. Try patching to Steam on CS sometime too.

As for frontiers, well I hope you do have a decent freind about with a good connection, if you do, heres a tip (PS, this goes for ALL patches too!).

Get them to save their c:/toa folder and its contents on a split CD or DVD (removing user.ini and <charname>.ini) and mail it to you, copy it to your own HD and presto...ya patched! Saving you the time and effort of reconnecting every 2 hours for a day to collect the addon! Simple eh, assuming you have freinds ofc and you can wait 24-48 hours for the post.

Why shouldnt he/she be allowed to play Daoc?....just because not everyone has the privlege of being able to afford a better connection..doesnt mean to say they shouldnt be allowed to play.

Gaming companies have to realise that not everyone has access to good connection speeds or some even have limits on their internet access...like download limits..cut off times etc

If they want to keep these people as customers then they have to apply sense when it comes to patches and such.

Well said, if people didn't play because they disliked one aspect of the game there would be a server popualtion of about 6 and thats at peak times.

He's merely asking why he keeps playing when he's opposing the large patches and not saying anyting if he/she should be allowed to play. ;)

hmm maybe so...but the orginal thread starter...sounded like if was saying Mythic didnt take into consideration connections etc...even though downloads can be resumed.(though he didnt know that by sounds of things)

Justicators post just to me sounded like...basically if u dont have a good connection...or u cant handle the big patches why should u play Daoc

maybe i read into it too much...or just didnt read it properly

/shrug

Re-read this guys post again, he got it all spot on, esp the bit about CDs on PC mags, thats their solution for anyone who cant cope with a download.

Fortunefish m8, sorry, I didnt mean to seem so angry, but lets face it, these days every other thread has te same result, do this or I quit.

I did give you and alternative idea for patching tho, OK, so you might have to wait on the post, but think about this too, even with Getright on 56k a 250Mb file is going to take you 2-3 days for it to get to you.

Why not ask on here if theres someone kind enough to do this whos local to you? Patch>burn to CD and meet up or sommit..
