A thought on Roleplay

For those that do it. For those that don't, well, give it a try sometime, it can be quite fun to run with a character, argument, mystery... whatever.

But don't forget that the people you're roleplaying with may have different goals or objectives than you do - in a proper consensual roleplay system you'd check with them OOC before you do anything that would make a big difference to their character (by trying to assassinate, starting a public fight, promising one thing and then not going through with it...). They planned their character development one way, and you plan yours another. When they collide, really, you should give a nod to recognise that and make sure they're ok with that.

We've had instances that have worked that way and others that haven't.

Roleplay enriches the game for many people, but I've also seen people a little hurt by it, or left stranded in the middle of a situation they really really didn't want to be in and certainly didn't do anything to bring on to themselves.
