OK forgive me if i missed the answer somewhere.

You can gain experience from killing other players.

Do you lose experience if you are killed by another player?

That really depends.
If someone <cough> should be so nasty as to mezz your entire group right after you pull 3 purple mobs, I can guarantee you will lose xp.
