It seems to me that sadly this forums is going the same way as the QW Forum as the volumne of posting is dropping. Is this an indication that Q2 as a whole is also dimminishing in popularity?

No game lives forever, but I wish this one is.. Cos I recently got the Quake 3 demo and realised how BAD it is (gameplay wise) in comparison to Quake 2.

Graphics on q3 are very nice, but that doesnt matter.

Im sticking with Quake 2 until I get bored with it

i've had q3 for a year now, and play it sometimes.however I still think q2 plays better and i still like it better.Im not SO sure its dying off....there seems to be plenty of empty q3 servers about!!!! Yet loads of the q2 uk servers i use are often full.who knows....me, i'll carry on with q2 atm i think.

I agree. Q3 looks very nice but you can't beat Q2 for playability.

Yes Q2 prolly had better gameplay but as I've recently learned Q3 can be really good if you get into it.

I dare say one of the reasons that there are full Q2 servers and empty Q3 servers is that there are about 5 or 6 times as many servers on the Barrysworld Q3 master list than the Barrysworld Q2 master list. There simply aren't that many decent servers to play Q2 on so people tend to get crammed into the few that are ok.

Q2 is deffinately on the way out, all you need to do is look at the situation with the leagues to see this. Both the recent UKCCL Cup and the new BWQ2Ls have been riddled with defaults as clans drop out (including my own clan SPAM).

I'll write a column update with a few things on my feelings on Q2 atm within the next couple of days, some of you purists may not like what I have to say tho

I wasnt saying the game is dying, i said the forums, due to the lower volumne of posting though it is fair to say that Q2 has lost some <quit a bit actually> of its popularity in light of Q3.
I also have the Q3 demo and have to turn the gfx down to get a good frame rate so the gfx dont affect me though in honesty i prefer Q2.

Quake 2 is a great but people move on. Quake 2 will not die for some time yet. Theres too many die hard Quake 2ers around that refuse to move to Quake 3 or anything else for one reason or another. Although many left Q2 to go to Q3 lets not forget that a lot also left for counterstrike. I think more people went to Q3 for Q1 than to Q3 from Q2. The Q2 community has also been diminished by a small amount of people which is a pity. The same 8 maps or so also gets boring. You can also blame the big clans too Blokey etc moved to Q3 with perhaps thinking of the tournaments (not to mention love of the game etc) and its amazing how many groupies there are that will just follow these "big named" players. Just join #unreal or #4kings or even #9 a clan now disbanded and also has a bigger following on etg. Although I have the utmost respect for peeps like blokey. Long live Q2

Lately I've been sneaking back on Jolt Q2 servers cos the game is SO good.

But now I've finally got round to archiving it off onto CD for those times when friends or on a LAN event.

The reason people say Q2 is dying is cuz of the lack of custom levels/mods that are coming out right now.

I mean, Q1 is way more popular right now, by the seems of it; loads of new levels and mods are in the making. People need to organise a big project or something along those lines to make people more interested in Q2, but until then, It WILL have a restricted audience.
