A question of skills....

Dear all,

Hello! I gotta few quick questions regarding the overall effectiveness of high level shades in combat.

I currently have a mid 30's lvl elven shade, and I was wondering what skill I should max out. Should I max stealth or CS? Although the lvl 50 CS move comes off of an evade situation, I was wondering how often do shades evade at lvl 50? Should I concentrate on stealth above lvl 40, or make up the numbers on item bonuses. Also, how important is a high lvl pierce skill? I currently seem to be using mostly CS combos on all mobs atm. I think that my current skills stand at something like

Stealth 29+4
Pierce 20+3
CS 34
Envenom 13+6

At lvl 35. Any advice would be appreciated, as I'm still fairly uncertain how much of an edge lvl 50 steath gives over the opposing stealthers and other chars in the game.

Im a level 47 elfen shade now and quite gimped but i like my specc and it works in combat. So my endspecc on 50 will be

Stealth 40: 38 is enouchg to maxx it with items but i want the lvl40 safefall. Stealth > 50 is useless(Grabbag said it improves your detect hidden range but its not for sure)
Blades 36: Good damage - Blade styles are quite useless
Critstrike 39: Gives you the complete PA chain
Envenom 40: Easy to max it to 50 for lifebane again >50 gives you nothing
Celtic dual 18: Good chance to hit with both weapons = improved damage

My specc is not the usual one so you better wait for replys from ebonn, dexa, chaplin ore someone else who plays longer then me before you gimp yourself

shade's are probably the best rvr characters, which is probably why they're such a damn mission to level

Fair question (although waaaay off subject) and I know what you mean about lack of high level shades. I'm determined to get to 50 though.

I chose a shade because the idea of being an assassin seemed like a nice spin on just thwacking things with a hammer or sword. And, because i have zero ability to play a caster/healer (I always seemed to do more harm than good! ) so a shade seemed like a nice option.

And I gotta say, it's been a lot of fun (when you can get a grp, but I'm not here to whine) and I'm now looking ever forward to the RvR thing! So, that's why I picked a shade! Got any advice for me?

Firstly, check this out

Pierce/stealth/cs/envenom can all be specced+modified to level 50 with as many as possible left in CD to enable you to hit with both weps more often. Personally I will also be going for RA's such as aug dex/aug quick/dodger/dualist thingy, as I think an assassin should be an offensive class, rather than some others approach of trying to make the ns more like a tank.
Your spec does not look bad at all though mate. You will want some more in envenom when you go out into rvr more imo though.
There are quite a few 50's and 40-50 shades on excal/hib. Most have slightly different idea about end spec. Most will take pierc/stealth/cs/envenom very near to 50. Some put more into CS for a higher damage output on these styles (i.e. PA chain will do more damage due to higher CS), others higher pierce for a greater base damage on all styles.
Best thing to do imo is to discover which items you know you can get your hands on by level 50 for +spec points and spec your points accordingly. A good pierce evade style is always good and the complete PA chain from the CS line is essential imo.

By the way Ryu, expect level 40 ish onwards to REALLY slow down xp wise. Spending a few ra points in aug dex/quick/dodger will help you in pve somewhat.

I did buy dodger 2 when I got 8 rk points and it helped a lot pve, remember when the crim named fin could hit me only once while I tanked it with a shield

I´m told 44 pierce style´s really good, hadn´t got time to test on Gorre last time :/

Depend on ur end rr, spec varies a lot. Some patient ppl can spec for rr6 which is LONG to have (unless u r in some uber god like guild) rest of midgets (or elves) just spec for rr4. The usual spec is:

39 - 44 CS
39+ Pierce
36+ Envenom (rr5 and 10+ u´ll have 50, unless u have old master assasin pendant)
36 - 40 Stealth (over 50 it does nothing same as Envenom)
Rest over in CD if any.

U won´t be able to have 50 CS unless u sacrifice A LOT (not really recommended), stealth at 40 top, u can have 50 easily. Envenom NOT too high, 37 as usual spec (rr4 to have LB with epic glove + DF jewel) or lower it if u r more hardcore. 39 pierce at LEAST and 44 (seems to be VERY powerful) if u really lower ur stealth & envenom enough (35 both) or auto-train (not in ya case).

CS combo is good, but u´ll hard ever pull out Ripper ever. I´ve got CS 44 and it´s REALLY rare that I use Rip Separation since NSs shouldn´t be tanking and have enemy alive after all PA chain, evade & styles (not counting soloing). Got 10k today in 2h and used Rip ONCE, the chance to use Ripper´s REALLY low, and atm afaik it´s bugged and does less dmg than Hamstring

Well theres over 20 lvl50 shades on excaliber, anyway my spec :

Numbers in brackets are with realm rank 6 and itams,

(50) 34 stealth,
(55) 44 pierce,
(56) 44 crit,
(50) 35 venom,
(15) 9 celtic duel, ( i think )

and im very glad i chose this spec, damage output is great, the 44 pierce style is nice aswell, had to sacrifice some celtic duel to get it but imo it was worth it,

imo stealth at 40 for lvl50 is a bit high unless you really dont want to use +stealth itams, i use them and dont suffer in any other areas have high melee resists and decent magic resists, same goes for envenom no need to have it so high,

at realm rank 4 i would choose :

36-38 stealth ( easily modified to 50 )
39-44 pierce ( your wep damage also determines base damage on ALL attacks including perf's etc.. )
39-44 crit ( if u mainly hit and run crit is more important, if u like to be able to fight after the initail attack pierce is aslo very important )
37 envenom ( easily modified to 50 )
rest in celtic duel.

RA's to get would be, dodger, MoPain, ignore pain, avoid magic, deulists reflexes, purge
( ignore pain and purge are not passive and are quite expensive, ignore pain is a lifesaver as nearly everybody has them now so without it you have to hope the opponant has used his or you are at a disadvantage already, with purge im still not sure if its as important )

Well my problem is that im not in a big guild(and i dont want to be) so i wont get all the uberitems to boost my stats. And i dont want to wait for rr4 to use lifebane or reaching 50 in stealth. Unfortunately i wont be able to respecc after i hit 50 getting a decent rr and some uber items so my specc cant be perfect.

Told you im gimped

Which items give you so much +CS and +Envenom then? And dont you miss items for resists and statbonusses then?

I think when spellcrafting/Alchemy is in it wont be a problem any more......

Envenom itams :

epic gloves : +5 envenom,
DF venom jewal : +5 envenom, ( swop with epic gem after venoming weps )

CS itams :

black crystal bracer : +2 CS,
epic gem : +3 CS, ( and +3 envenom )

the epic gem and gloves come with ur epic quest, you can buy the DF venom jewal for 16 dimonds and the black bracer drops from the new fearies which are easyable soloable @ 50,

i have maxed stats, and atm 18% crush, 24% slash 25% thrust, just from easyable to get drops and bought itams from DF.

Thanks all, I got some really good responses and ideas for how lil Ryu's gonna turn out. I wanted to thank you all for the input. I think I'll be bringing my pierce skill up a little bit in the near future!

I think that my Final Stats will be something like:

Stealth: 35-40 (still undecided)
CS: 39
Pierce: 44
Envenom:30-35
CD: The rest

Hopefully I'll be able to get to 50 before those nice fellows from the loony bin come to cart me off!!

How can u got that high thrust?!

I´ve got only 15% crush 16% slash 16% thrust... will have 15% crush with faerie drop... but need to cap my slash and thrust :/

At least I´ve got 26% body now, but don´t wanna use an old master assasin pendant instead of my DF bought one (3 x 6% resist: energy thrust and another one AND some +stat)

My respec plan would be 35 Envenom/Stealth 44 CS/Pierce rest over CD.
