It seems like mids dont care about there realm any more this is 1 of the resons i came up with DEFETISEM'S
why do i say DEFETISEM'S well it just seems that when ppl do things its all me me me and to hell with you i dont care what u want i want o do this insted of the old game play we use to have befor TOA came out and the dreded NF sins NF lots of mids are just DEFETISEM'S

I was wondering the same.. does it have anything to do with only caring about yourself? if so that was toa and not nf .. or maybe the lack of will to defend / attack our frontier/enemy frontier?

Defeatist I think.

I don't think that Midgard in particular is defeatist, but I do think that numbers are dropping of late. I would be extremely surprised if the same were not happening on all realms though, not just Midgard.

There have been a lot of problems recently - I personally think that ToA is poorly designed and implemented, and encourages more of a self-centred style of gameplay (arti theft anyone?) that has not helped the community. Also did we really need another bout of levelling?

MMO games designers need to realise that levelling alone will not keep people coming back for more. Someone needs to break the mould that has been in place since UO started.

Another issue is the current lag problems, and the seeming lack of activity on the part of GOA/Mythic to do anything about it - it makes subscribers using the English language servers feel undervalued, when we all pay the same subs.

On top of that you have WoW beta positions being filled by DAoC players, and a lot more wanting to play it on release. Add on EQ2, CoH beta etc etc and you keep racking up more and more reasons why people may be leaving.

So then, it could be the end of DAoC we are seeing, although I doubt it. Those who want to leave, please do what you think is right. Those of us who choose to stick with it, well we know what the faults are, but know that the grass is not necessarily going to be greener elsewhere. I for one have invested too much time and get too much enjoyment from my guild to want to leave.

Ordinarily this would earn you a "HaHa! I'm a better spell than you" post from me... However! It is the Christmas season, and I’m nothing if not generous.

It seems like mids don’t care about their realm anymore this is one of the reasons I came up with why mid's are all Defeatists!
Why do I say Defeatism? Well it just seems that when people do things its all me, me, me, and to hell with you! I don’t care what you want I want to do this! Instead of the old game play we use to have before Trials of Atlantis came out and the dreaded New Frontiers. Since New Frontiers lots of mids are just giving up.

I think the underlying reason is that DAoC is a game, a game to be played for enjoyment. I wouldn't be too wrong if I were to say that the general attitude of your average Midgard player is a competitive one (that’s putting it politely in some people's cases).

Competitive players like to compete, however. Given that New Frontier's focuses more on numbers than anything else people in the two less populated realms feel they are unable to continue to compete. The game stops being fun for them when they realise this, and if they have any sense they will typically cancel their subscription.

This in turn removes even more players from a particular realm, giving an even greater sense of despair and hopelessness to the remaining players, which only serves to dampen their enjoyment of the game. Which in turn causes them to cancel their subscriptions.

It's basically a numbers game, the less of us there are - the harder it is for the remaining players, they less they enjoy the game, the greater chance they will quit as well.

This problem has only been compacted by the current release of various "Next-Big-Thing" games, the chief example of this being World of Warcrafts US release.


At least that’s my reasoning behind it, I don't think I’m too far off - but maybe somebody has a better explanation

For weeks now, the DAoC community has been plagued with WoW wannabee's who want to get into the OpenBeta and keep posting, spamming and nagging about it and thereby thoroughly poisening the game atmosphere for us, loyal Middies. That and the lag, that spoils our raids, is enough to drive any person crazy :eek2:

Everybody likes a change and after 3 yrs of DAoC most of us are ready for it...even me. But I don't think that I could just give up my chars here after all that fun/time/adventures, when WoW open-beta starts I am going to give it a try and see what all the fuss is about.

But ... I just started a cute Thane-girl 'Poozykat' and I am having great fun, even doing Ick again go Thanes!

This is a few days ago and if I recall correctly, it was around 08:00 CET. This dude, named Tipster, PM's me and asks me if i want to retake the an unclaimed tower at bledmeer. I declined due to being very sleepy and just wanted to level some artifacts in peace. This however, seemed to be unheard of.

What Sweet and Archeon said. NF feels a bit like Roxette's latest album; it should've been good, it sounds good in theory but there's just something wrong that I can't put my finger on just yet.
With all this lag I can't blame people for leaving the game, and taking a go at a random mid is terrible behaviour, which I wouldn't have expected from an ex-Nazgul. Midgard defended it's relics valiantly for 10 days, but in the end we were tired and outnumbered. You can't expect a realm without relics to call the horn and retake every tower lost with 50+ people.
Ah well, seeing I'm on the verge of cancelling my subscription my opinion might be slightly biased in the matter.

But I think it's mostly not the number of normal albs that tear us down, just few classes who instantly kill most of people that try to peek from a window or wall.

Hmm..after NF i find rvr dull due to the constant keep taking and long sieges. Its pretty boring as warrior just blocking arrows from 4k range or whatever.

Can´t say i´ve stayed away to try defend our realm, although i hate attacking enemy frontier..especially as tht frontier mostly is alb. And we know the amounts albs round up to farm you back >_<

Lately rvring seems more acceptable, and it turned out fine for me. Kinda funny after ToAing my warrior, im not able to take on infils :-P

If we gotta make a move into alb frontier, we gotta do it hard. Taking an unclaimned tower in alb during the night wont get you anymore, since its just taken back in the morning.

Just let the NF go on a bit more, people might return after they rolled a fotm char or got boring with something else. WoW might drag alot of people along, but like me, it dosen´t mean im gonne delete my daoc account

I noticed that there is fewer mids online primetime now then ever before. Just a couple of months ago we could have 700+ ppl online at the same time sometimes. This weekend we didn't even break 400 when i checked. That's a huge decline. I think this number will drop even lower when WoW is released.

aye its happening , a steady decline as more mmorpg are released imo , im almost ready to call it a day (not quite though ) , lost my enthusiasum for it atm. playing LOTR battle for middle earth to fill my spare time. might play more after xmas but after that recent bout of ld's and server problems that finished me off for a while. im awaiting the release of POTBS and D&L then im surely gone (not really a fan of WoW tbh)

I must admit the lag has put me off now too, I log in, see one red square and log out and play HL2. I think a lot of ppl are doing the same. But I do have faith it will be fixed....sometime.

But agreed with this thread in some respects, having played other realms and servers, Excal has a poor attitude to grouping and the likes. Stand shouting LFG at a keep, and a 5 man group will run past you and ignore your /yells, no matter what class you are.

Mids are the first to moan about the alb zerg, yet we cannot muster one ourselves because the random groupings tend to wonder off to do their own thing, then die, release and get bored, rather than stay with the main group. This is Mids downfall, the fact that most individuals will f*ck each other from behind without even offering a reach-around if it means 1rp more. This in itself leads to boredom, as the contsant dying gets tedious the players think "feck this, im off" and log.

We do little to work together, Ardamel and others have tried leading mids into battle, only to find half the zerg we started out with vanished halfway because one person spotted a single enemy in the next zone and that must mean arpies. By the time they get back to the zerg, the other half have been ganked and they are next up for lunch.

As for Tipsters attitude, LOL at that chat, thats funny! But his sentiment is true, he just puts it across like a knob.

I truely beleived NF would bring out the teamsmanship in Midgard, but it seems to have made the TOA effect even worse.
