I've tried to get my head around running a sorc, but I'm just not getting it.

I've been reading here about the various combinations of specs, but I'm not sure which spell lines apply to which specline.

Basically, I want to be good at mezzing, but I want to be able to deal out good damage as well.

I'm currently at 15th level and I'm roughly splitting my points between mind and body, although I've been told to favour mind once I hit around 20th level.

So, which spell lines do Mind effect?
and which spell lines to Body effect?
What am I gonna miss out on if I don't develop matter much.

I've been soloing up until now mostly, so I think I've been using some matter damage spellls quite a bit, but I'm not sure.

Help please, and keep it pretty simple as I've never really had much experience with these types of casters, as my main is a cleric (50th level), which I know very well, but clerics are a completely different type of class to play.

I always use classes of camelot as a base point for trying to find out about specs and the what not.

http://www.classesofcamelot.com/misc/links.asp

gives a detailed list of class specific forums for most classes in DAOC.

http://sorcerer.jdm007.com/?ubb=forum&f=21
that site is particularly good.

and this thread here has a good discussion on sorc specs

Note that a lot of the city is on the South side of the river.
Some is on the end of the river and a little bit is on the north side.

Given that, I think the map shows that Vejle is more on the South side than the North side.

OK, so Body destruction is base line, which is great as I use that a fair bit and I don't need to worry about developing that.

But what's so great about Body?
Sure, I can use debuffs, but are they that great?

I think I'm gonna put most of my points into mind from now.

Yep debuffs are great, ask a Ice Wizzie to test the differnce in dmg between a mob that has and hasn't been cold debuffed. Also the strength and dex debuffs make a big difference. For a final template cant go far wrong with 40Body 36Mind. Gives you the 2nd best spells in both lines and means that your more then just a mezz and demezz bot in RvR. If you are soloing alot though you need to make sure that you keep you mind level high to charm mobs of the same levels.

1 in mind for up to lvl 10 mobs
7 in mind for up to lvl 15 mobs
12 in mind for up to lvl 26 mobs
20 in mind for up to lvl 40 mobs
32 in mind for up to lvl 50 mobs

Good luck!

Maybe you shaould have followed the thread of the original conversation closer.
NM, you're from Vejle, I guess someone else in Vejle is using the Vejle timeshare braincell. ;)

And largely, Vejle IS on the other side of the river.

OK, that's interesting and thanks for the tips. :)
Well, I hope that I won't be soloing much from now on, it's pretty dull.
I found getting groups at low levels is harder now what with SI, but lately the Salisbury plains has a lot more groups, so maybe people are starting to gravitate back towards the more traditional areas for XPing

I'll keep your suggestion in mind ;)...

So I guess I should not develop matter at all then if I'm going mind/body?

I.E. put zero points into it?

In the end it comes down to how you want to play...

I've got a 46 body, 27 mind sorc... And when I made it, it was perfect... 46 gives you a 50% cold debuff... And back then, the group I was in almost always had 2-4 ice wizards in it...

Now I tend to be in more tank-oriented groups, and the mez that I get at 24 could be a bit too 'low'... Gets resisted a bit much and the area is a bit small...

So I'll probably respec to 44 mind 30 body after the patch...

But its all how you play... I've got sorcerers that are 36 mind, 40 matter (I think), and they love the spec... I personally say that you miss out on AE-root... Which can be handy at times... They get a snare-dd though, which is very usefull when solo'ing...

Well, I pretty much set on a Mind/body spec now.
Probably favouring Mind over body.
But that being the case, just not developing matter at all is OK?

Or are there some essential low level matter spells I ought to have?

Well, for a Jack of all Trades Sorc, you could spec 36 Body 36 Mind 17 Matter.

This would give you most of the decent Mind/Body spells and also the first snare/DD in the Matter line.

It's a low-level spell though, so would get resisted a lot in RvR.
