A new Shuttle

Under the name SN45G it is a slightly modified SN41G:

FN45
Form Factor : Shuttle Form Factor
CPU Socket : Support 200/266/333/400MHz FSB AMD Socket A CPU
Chipsets : North bridge - NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400, South bridge - MCP-T
Memory Support : DDR 200/266/333/400 * 2
Audio : Realtek ALC650 six channel audio
Expansion Slot : PCI * 1 AGP * 1
IDE interface : ATA-133

Main difference is the inclusion of the nForce2 Ultra 400 north bridge, naturally this enables support for 400 FSB Athlons.

Ooo, very nice :D Slightly modified case styling too :) I've just had a quick check, and there are no confirmed prices as yet, but the SN41G2 debuted at around £230-300, depending on what you bought one, so I would expect this system to come in around that sort of price too. That said, if you're investing in it because you have access to 400Mhz equipment, price shouldn't really be an issue ;)

Kind Regards

How can I reflash my BIOS without a floppy disk drive?

Thanks :)

Burn the above file on to a CD, use a bootable Win98 CD and boot off it with CD-ROM support. Stick in the first CD with the BIOS file on it and load it.

After wasting 4CD's I finally worked it out.

I created a bootable CD with Nero Express:

The first one used the XP created MS Bootdisk and had no CDROM support.

Attempt 2 used a Windows98 boot disk but it wouldn't open as there was no writable places to extract the files to.

Attempt 3 with an OEM Windows98 bootdisk with a ramdrive worked fine.

Has anyone noticed their machine runs quiter now?

Yeah, although mine did after the last BIOS because I forced it to run at a Mid level all the time :)

I know there's the Athlon XP CPU Burn Proof system, but don't things get a little hot when running resource intensive applications, like EVE, say? Just curious :)

Eve seems to go pretty easy on the CPU power. I'm normally around 60% usage with 1 eve client running, but does max out when jumping systems and stuff.

I'd quite like to see more games designed to run in the background happily. Most modern games cause all sorts of problems when alt-tabbing out and trying to run other things simultaneously. But with persistent universes and games aiming towards full-time players it just isn't practical to expect people to dedicate their entire PC time to the game for 10 hours a day.

Or the other way to go about it is to have built in email clients and web browsers into games like Eve touched on very slightly. Ever since I started playing EverQuest it became obvious that every game in the world needs built-in message boards, where you can easily post bugs, questions or just rant while waiting to respawn.

I agree .Cask, greater integration within games would be cool. In Black & White, for example, I believe there was an integrated POP3 email client, which, as well as checking your normal mail whilst in a multiplayer game, also allowed other players to private message you.

As for Alt-Tab'ing, I'm not really sure where the problem lies, whether it's with Windows, say, or with the API itself (e.g. OpenGL, Direct3D etc).

Kind Regards
