Travelling across Cornwall, I noticed that someone called Xorta had been attacked by a creature called a 'geersha warrior'. Now I thought I knew Cornwall pretty well, but this was a new creature to me, so after consulting my guild (who had also never heard of these 'geersha' creatures) and checking with Xorta, I went looking in the area to see what I could find... and found rather a lot more than I expected!
Heading North West from Cornwall Station, past the ruins of the church, I knew that the area was inhabited by cliff spiderlings. However, if you carry on twards the assorted large rocks next to the coast, there are a whole new group of creatures, in appearance very similar to goblins. These are of two types, geersha - who are either archers or warriors - and maharash, whose function was less clear until we fought them, when it transpired that they are spellcasters. They seem to mix freely, and although aggressive to us are apparently fiendly towards each other - although on two occasions I saw parties of these creatures attack and kill cliff spiderlings.
There were a great many of the geersha and maharash - at least 30, possibly more - so I called on some friends for assistance, and soon Zaitenko, Cauton and Ziera joined me. Between us we observed some odd behaviour among these new goblin creatures. Although they were normally wandering singly or sometimes in pairs, there was always one group of between six to nine of them marching together, usually in line following a leader. We fought one such group, and after defeating it were fascinated to see that from among the creatures in the area, another such group formed up! There was never more than one group, but as soon as that was defeated another would form...
In terms of toughness, these beings varied somewhat, although only one or two seemed of greater experience than I most were roughly as capable as me, with a few much weaker. There was no noticable difference in 'toughness' between the maharash or either type of greesha, all seemed to be in the same general range of challenge should you wish to try fight them. From the ones we killed, it seems they have an unusual source of weaponry - all their weapons we captured were of fine alloy - strangely, even a bow was made of this material, not of the wood you expect to be used! They were of poor quality, and pitted badly. For their strength, however, the monsters were fairly wealthy, one of the maharash carrying more a gold piece on him. Odd that they have money, but such poor equipment.
Events took a much stranger turn late at night... when in addition to these goblins, a party of three humans appeared! These 'strangers' were hostile towards us, but unlike the goblins were not actively aggressive. They marched in a group from the coast across into the forest, and eventually I managed to follow one group right the way into Avalon Marsh before they finally disappeared. I did manage to make a picture of them whilst I was following - those of you who have fought on the frontiers may be interested to see they type of armour and equipment these 'strangers' were carrying.
So, having observed all we could, we now have many more questions than answers.. hopefully things will become clearer in the near future.
(OOC, when you kill a geersha you are told your standing with 'A Dark Power' has decreased, while killing a maharash or a 'stranger' gets the same message plus 'Your standing with the Strangers has decreased'. Are the 'strangers' teachers of magic to the maharash? And what is the 'dark Power behind all three groups? At level 41 the creatures were all range of con from grey to orange, but mostly blue or yellow - the 'strangers' were yellor, and occasionally orange. The bow and handaxe we captured were of 'pitted fine alloy', but only 70% quality and very poor weapons, there was no sign of anything else dropping when you kill the geersha, maharash or 'strangers' other than cash - but we did not fight that many, so there may be better things to be found from them! From some of the words and phrases used in describing what was happening, I reckon this is a GOA/DAOC Europe event rather than part of the 'core' game.... no offence meant, but the grasp of English was sometimes a little shaky.. )
