I was shopping for summer holiday clothes yesterday when I popped into GAP and heard an awesome song playing that at first listen sounding like The Cure - Disintegration in it's feel - the very distinct drums (same tempo, same hi-hat rhythm, same bass drum rhythm) were almost the same, the chords of the song were quite similar too.

YouTube - The Cure- Disintegration

However, there was a woman singing in it, like Kate Bush or Sarah McLachlan, one of those types. I was too far away to Shazam it, and I only caught the last 45 seconds or so of the song but I really liked it.

Any ideas?

Yeah Trem, definitely purchasing this.

See what I mean by the Kate Bush-ness of it? and the rhythm of the drums like Disintegration? It's also a bit Stevie Nicks' 'I can't wait'.

I really liked her last one "Daniel" as well.
She's been around for a while. It's only lately that she's been "noticed" and got radio airplay.
I've made comparisons with Sarah MacLachlan as well. Sarah's one of my wife's favourite singers so I'm exposed to this style quite a lot.

I *cough* got hold of the CD.

It has some very excellent stuff on it so far, great use of a Linn LM1 drum machine (Human League used one, Prince also used one in nearly every song) which gives it a great 80's edge (synth hand claps?). Also hearing some TR-808 effects - I love vintage drum machines.

Impressive production, must look that up.

all about the 808. It seems people are getting all their old shit synths and samplers out and plugging them back in. Its nice to use an actual bit of kit instead of endlessly using the soul destroying software emulations.

Got a 1960's vintage ex-bbc synthesizer at my parents house. You actually have to manually patch the LFOs/HFOs into the modulators and processing units with leads (think of old school phone exchanges with wires going everywhere on a patch board and you've got it!). Fuckin great fun to play with. 100% analogue of course.

The LM1 was what Jean Michel Jarre used to create a good chunk of Zoolook.
