Guys,

got a digital camera with a serial (9 pin) connection to the pc. Connected it up and cant pull pictures (like what you should)
in the bios, I have 4 settings for the serial port :
compatible
bi-directional
EPP
ECP

any clue what it needs to be ?

Yes, you are looking at the parallel port, not the serial.

I'd expect ECP & EPP to work, they have done for my thingies. (oldé mp3 player, scanner)

No, no he means you're looking at the properties of the parallel port in the BIOS. Bi-directional, EPP and ECP are all aspects of the parallel port.

I don't know why your camera isn't working, though. Can your PC 'see' the camera? Does it know there's one there?

My digital camera sets up a 'my digital camera' icon under my computer with it's software, but that never works. Instead when I plug it in, 'removable disk E:' appears, but that does the job so I've never really worried about it.

Is the Com port your camera is connected to set at the right speed ?

Check (assuming Windows 2000):

Control Panel - System - Hardware Tab - Device Manager Button - Expand Ports - Right Click Communication Port (one connected to your camera) - Properties - Port Settings Tab - Bits per Second (default is 9600 - change to 115200 or 128000).

Worth a try.
