A healers story

Ok, Ill try to be short,
I got the got the game first day the server opened. (not beta) Made a hunter, got him up 2 9th lvl by soloing and grouping with a m8. Kabooom STOP, then we died and died and died and died and..what a suprise no healers around.

I read the "fine informative" game manual to try to make a new char.. Noob as I was I chose to make a healer. Firstly bcs I wanted to heal my m8 and the manual said something like " the healer can also solo at the low lvl colors"

The xp went fast and 3-4 weeks later i was 41 lvl i got around 4000 rps (none off em have i earned my self, group rp`s, except maybe one or 2 grey hibbies)

The Xping part:
I really think that daoc should make a "dont group with" list like the Friends list there are so many 12.year old players out there that should rather play with lego to get some practical thinking.

A hunter named U*** is mainly the reason why i stopped xping. We where 4 ppl in a group xping, he pulled a purp wich we had big trouble with just one pull before. He got him self killed before he even got in healing range, and started to yell and scream about why i didnt heal ??? I ignored it and ressed him after the battle. Then he started teaching me how to heal.. in a childly manner. I left the group angry as I was. Got many sends about how lousy i was, before i ./ignore him

The RvR part
Ok a healer can mass stun and mass mez hibbies and albs, but watching the tanks go wild, attack everything in sight and break the mezzes, getting me killed and listen to the excuses afterwards just made me wanna puke. And the fort raids i dont even wanna talk about...

At 41 lvl I got so tired of being killed/sniped/stunned/messed in RvR that I decided I`d make a character that could actually KILL something for himself and get away with it.

Why we wont have hunters/sbs in our group ?
ONE WORD: PROTECT
And another thing, try to get a hunter to join your group or join him in rvr... Healers dont get any rps if they dont have a group (perhaps if we would get realm points for ressing ppl would be a good idea, we are infact helping the Realm!)

Be nice to healers/shamans ffs they are doing u a HUGE favor

yes, yes and the tanks are doing you a favour - killing things to give you xp.

I was a cleric on EQ and enjoyed keeping the party alive and not doing anything apart from the odd heal/res. Personally I think healers have it easy :)

yea i know how u feel bathory, i have a hunter and i play a healer at similar times (on 2nd computer, that another family member holds) its hard to rvr if u are a healer and harder to solo mobs, but with instant stun/mezz etc its possible to take down yellow rvr people you just have to choose the targets, i.e. ae mezz then stun their mages then whack the crap outta them and then watch a m8 kill the tanks while u happily stun for him leaves basically a healer to control the flow of rvr (well that i found as they are most effective) :)

Yea but it would be great if chat and Sends could be mezzed to...
allways a sniper around these days,

2 months from now: RvR = Sniper Vs Sniper, and some skalds getting killed by running off cliffs.

If we healers are lucky we may get it better in the future.
I read a mythic post somewhere about what mythic has for plans about the healer. They gonna give RPs for mezz and Stunning and heals, and maybe Rezz too. (Everything that you make in RvR gonna give RPs)

If they implement this I think it will be much more fun to be in RvR with a healer.

Bathory...I feel your pain. I have retired my Healer for almost the same reasons as you.

Regardless of what Mythic do the Healer class now, it will always suck in RvR. Firstly because our instas are on 10min timers, and secondly because we have no offense. A lone healer without instas is dead meat, end of story. With the purge realm skill on the horizon now, I really want to see Healers either get some offense (DD shouts or something) or those insta timers dropped to like 1 minute.

I don't think the DD shout option fits with the Healer class in general though, and many will claim we would be overpowered with insta timers reduced. But try playing a Healer in RvR, its so tough staying alive when your instas are down and your group has died. Getting back to res is your worst nightmare. Compare this with the ease a cleric has wandering around the frontier....<enemy spotted camping realmmates bodies>...STUN...SMITE...SMITE...SMITE...<enemy dies>...RES...

In fact, simply compare the Middy Healer to the Albion Cleric.....either 1 is gimped or one is overpowered...you choose.

Ditto. I got a little tired of my shaman and retired it at lvl 37. Yes its a breeze to level but lets face it after 2 or 3 weeks sitting at the back of a group healing when needed was getting a little tiring for me , plus as was already mentioned healers dont really earn any points in RvR aside mezzing/rooting. I am now enjoying playing as a paladin and seeing as ive hit 36 now just starting to see another side of RvR . Mind i still suck but thats probably down to lack of experience. Guess it boils down to your playing style but at least we have a choice and roll different characters.

Shammies have it bad too, though not as bad as healers in rvr. I can self buff to help melee, but I get tired when my main crowd weapon (AoE poison) gets frowned on all the time as "it breaks mezz". I say try telling that to all the others who are using AoEs indiscriminantly.

I'm hoping to get the AoE root and insta PBAoE disease in 1.50 asap, but that looks like that will be September. By then I will probably have a lvl 50 minstrel or wizard on Prydwen

Ebeneezer would probably be retired by now but for certain things:

- some good ppl in mid/excal. I have some great friends there, especially in Nazgul, my runie mate Djiin and tank man Mephiston
- the desire to finish the job and get to 50
- the shammie lurve mentioned above
- dedicated help in lvlling from notable people like Killgorde, Woody, Barbar, Haelin, Sheba. If I have missed your name here and you have helped me then sorry.

Reasons for retiring
- tired of being solely support in RvR. I choose my times to use my AoE poison, but I need the AoE root and PB disease badly...then I can make a big difference without pissing off the healers, as I'll use the more powerful single target poison on the target that tanks are on :)
- high lvl parties - I'll make another post on this

The devs have got to sort this out. We have already lost people from the seer class and others are contemplating it.

Also, middies should help their support class. Without EACH OTHER, tanks and healers will not succeed.

Lets face it, if mythic give healers or shammies anything, there will be people complaining that their class should get something too.

As things stand both healing classes are a waste of time, and that is from someone who plays a level 31 shaman.

I dont know what a healer need, but I think a shaman needs either a hammer spec or shield spec. 20% increase in cave? Sorry I dont even think I will notice it.

And please please please, Mythic, sort out the auto release timer. There is nothing more demoralising for a rezzer than to get close to a dead party, only to have them auto-release.

I play a shaman because I like being a support class. There is a skill to being able to keep your party alive, and I still dont get it right all the time. And if someone wants to lie there, waiting for me to traipse across Skona, or Upplands alone, to try to rez them, then surely the game should let them.

(This is a sore point at the moment for me)

Pryd Hibbie with mid excal alts

'lo all

I currently play a druid on Hibernia/Prydwyn atm. I have an alt on MId/Excal for fun and general laughs when the exp grind hits in on Hibernia. Tbh with u gents - when my group goes down in RvR - I have to do the same as you, run - hide and try and sneak back in.

I think a weapons spec line and 1.5 skill points per level would improve the healer classes on midgard and the Druid on hibernia no end (although perhaps it might make the druid a bit like an Uber warden and as such I can see why they dont do this).

I have atm a puny lvl5 Skald called Bauxite, but I am tempted to create a healer class for the good of the realm and all that jazz - what I would like is in your opinion which of the two classes is marginally less painful to play? :)

Do you think the healer classes are so painful to play because most of the other middie classes are so good at what they do?

Cheers

Healers are fun in PvE I guess, I quite enjoyed it for about 40 levels. It is rewarding keeping groups alive and mezzing well. You will level quicker than any other class, and you will always get groups. However, RvR will be 'teh suq'. Ignore what anyone else tells you about Healers in RvR. Sire they are uber mezzers etc.... but PLAYING one sucks..believe me...

Skalds on the other hand...Well. I imagine Midgard is awash with Skalds now, because it is an UBER RvR class. In fact, I'm of the opinion that the Skald is the best class in the game. It will be marginally harder to level than the healer (mainly because there will be so many skalds) but you can at least solo.

I LOVE the skald that I have - I take High yellows with ease.

I can now see why I bump into so many high level skalds on the Prydwyn RvR scene.

I have to say as regards my druid - rvr for me is not running around and hitting things - my character simply cannot do that and survive. My Druid is specced mainly in heal - so tbh I havent got the high level DoT and buffs that would allow me to 'solo' blue con warriors - let alone yellow con stuff :)

I derive my RvR in other ways - I look for ambush points with my group, concentrate on ensuring that my tanks are well buffed and that we dont get ambushed in turn by sneaky mids. I try and root incoming enemies if I spot them so my party can Isolate and hit the danger men first or run if we are outnumbered.

Its not as much fun as running around with a big choppa and hacking people up - but I find that I do get satisfaction in keeping ppl alive and rezzing dead comrades to continue the war =)

I like the look of the shaman from what I have seen and I like the idea of the different mezzes and stuns of the healer class. I suspect I will give one of them a try at some point. I know shamans are gimped at level40+ but I am going to hope that 1.50 is out here by the time I reach lvl40 odd and then I will have some luving from Mythic.

Tbh if the character doesnt go as I want it to - I am gonna blank it and play something else anyway :D

:) Healers ownz. PvE or PvP - doesnt matter. Just ownage. Its the second cheat in Midgard after the scald. Each char in DAOC has weaks and cheats, so
1. use your power
2. use enemy weakness.
Sometimes its a bit tricky, but thats the game for some challenge. Play Q3 if you wanna shoot-shoot- kill-shoot-dead.... ;)

WTH. Healers earn their realm points just as much as every other class. btw we heal too.
If you say things like that you can say no class earn their realm points!, warrior only do dmg etc. etc.

I wrote an answer ot the thing foldroll said about both healing classes are a waste of time, but I got logged out while i was typing.
Well atleast I explained that they are not and that they are very useful to the realm and their group.

And it ended with: I enjoy playing the Healer.

hehehe this one got got tripple as short as the other post that dissappeared. I guess you can think out my explanation yourself:p
