A great game review/preview site

I just came across this site GamersInfo this afternoon, I had heard of it before and it has a growing reputation for reviewing games properly on thier own merits. All the staff are volunteers and so the reviews are instantly alot more trust worthy than some of the bigger professional sites. Anyway, some of you probably already know the place but I thought I would post a link for those than don't, this link points to thier 'About Us' page and gives some insight into how they review games....

Hmm found the site a bit slow and poor navigation. Was looking for nintendo wii reviews you had to find a wii game in the recent reviews then click that wii link. At the end of that all they only reviewed about 10 games including the ones that came with in!

Sticking with Ign for now not found a site that comes close.

The big sites are more comprehensive of course but for me it comes down to quality over quantity anyway so GamersInfo is a good source for me. I also worry that corporate sites like IGN are influenced by huge advertising contracts, for example when the PS3 came out Sony bought up $100,000's of advertising space and IGN were proclaiming PS3 as the best thing ever. 6 month on and Microsoft spend a fortune pushing Forza 2 / Halo 3 then suddenly IGN jump back on the X360 bandwagon. With GamersInfo being a small volunteer run site they don't need massive advertising revenues, just enough to cover costs. I feel the reviews are more trustworthy because of this as they aren't going to be as scared of pissing off an advertising partner. IGN and Gamespot worry me very much and I have been unhappy with a fair few reviews in the past. Don't get me wrong, I still read them but I am alot less inclined to make a purchase based on thier reviews.

I also love the GamersInfo review system, it is a much fairer system than I have seen most places and the day 10 minimum play rule for reviews means you usually get a much more balanced and informed opinion. Also the way they have different criteria for reviewing MMO's makes alot of sense as well.

However I do like the fact IGN has a certain continuity through the reviews and uses the same rating system for games but they will be under some pressure from sponsors and adverts. Saying that it is a fair way off the reviews you get on sites like play, amazon, gameplay being the retailers. Ign will definitely be critical to poor titles.

Maybe gamersinfo caters more for the pc games which I'm not complaining about. But I didn't see a search feature so its more a case of looking what reviews they have done rather than going to the site and searching for a specific article about game 'x' that your were interested in.

I agree it does need a redesign and I also agree that IGN has some positive points. As with anything in life really it is best to get a number of opinions before you spend your cash so reading multiple reviews is a good thing.

Just read a GH2 review... Very good site, better than most I've seen actually. Reppeededed.

i never trust revews in the first place. just because the revewer loves a game doesent make it true in my case at best i can look at the description on the game box/games site i order the games from and make my desition based on that. and its working so far.

Depends for me really. Looking at GH1/2 - They looked really really good, had good reviews from my friends (who play guitar, well, too) and from other people. Then got the same reviews from websites. So it would generally appeal to me as I liked how it looked.

I'm usually like you though, will depend on how it looks on the box/what the game is actually about. (Reasons why I DIDN'T buy the most recent set of Final Fantasy games)
