A Friendly Warning to a Minority

Hi,

An open letter to anyone who fancies being racist, homophobic or just gut wrenchingly uninformed and offensive on the GAME forums.

There is no free speech on these forums. Sorry to break that to you. There is only speech which GAME pays to host.

Now, generally, that means that anyone can have their say, within reason. So don't panic, regulars (well, most of you ) It just seems that certain extremists need to have it explained that they aren't dealing with fluffly and inneffective 'lefties' like they think they are.

You are dealing with a community of generally well meaning and intelligent people, backed up by a large (but not massive ) UK company, who just won't stand for that kind of crap.

Just if in doubt, don't. Please think before you type and you will be doing your bit to ensure that we're all around to enjoy these forums in years to come.

Because extremists are one minority I'm more than happy to pick on. So nerr.

Which is all well and good, but lets not try to lose sight of the fact that the guy was simply trolling. I've no idea whether he is actually as racist as he says he is, but the point is his posts were made to get a reaction. In future, would it not be best to see these people for the idiots they are and not get worked up about it? I find the most effective tactic is to ignore them. They tend to get most worked up about that. Eventually they actually go away of their own accord.

Why should we have to put up with deliberate trolling?
Poking fun and "insulting" people you have known for a while on these forums is fine imo.

But I dont feel that if you just come here to wind everyone up all the time with racists (etc...) type posts that it should be tolerated at all.

We kind of tried that in the DAoC forums - what happened? Lots of people slapping him on he back, joining his fan club, extoling the virtues of having women stay at home like the brain damaged child bearers they are, and genuine requests for him to join politics, namely the BNP. That was what was depressing.

I know, I know, the dynamics of this forum are entirely different, but still.
