There was something posted here went along the lines of....

If Jim had 8 pounds and brought something for 3 pounds then the worker in a hotel took him his change in his room which was £2 and took one for himself and they all ended up with £16

I cant remember the numbers or the story but was a bit like that.. anybody know it?

You ended up having £1 missing or extra in your head.

yeah was me

3 guys go into a hotel the room is £30 they pay £10 each

Owner then realised that the room is £25 so gives £5 to the bell boy to take back to them

The boy keeps £2 for himeself and give the 3 guys £3 back

Which means they all get £1 back and mean they paid £9 each

And of course the answer is:
They haven't paid £30. They've paid £27. £25 for a hotel room and £2 for the tip.
They paid £30 originally but the owner refunded £5 so they've been charged £25. The original £30 is just a smokescreen to confuse you. To split the £5 change they take £1 each and give the rest as a tip so they've each paid £9 which equals £27 and includes the £2 tip to the bellboy.
