A decent ripper?

I need to appeal to the collective intelligence and experiance of the BW forums; I need a decent ripper.

I have tried MusicMatch which is all very fast and does what I want but crashes at random intervals, usually on the second track. Others I have triesd are criple ware or produce ghastly popping noises on the tracks.

suggestons? comments?? (apart from the odd Moooo....)

I'd have suggested musicmatch, then audio catalyst.

Is it worth persevering with Musicmatch to see where the problem is?

Cheers guys. I've ended up with Audioactive for now - I meant to install Audio catalyst but misread the file, sigh.... Looking good. Shame about MM but life's too short.

Have you tried the excellent CDEX, a Freeware Cd-ripper, Wav<->MP3 converter, and it comes with a few decent encoders, one of which is the L.A.M.E. encoder - one of the best MP3 encoders around.

CDeX is one of the fastest ripping programs - I use it all the time, and it's very reliable.

I havnt found anything better, or faster than Audio Catalyst.

Cdex was ok, when it was the first ripper to support CDDB track naming.

But, Catalyst is the one now, far superior, and its extremely easy to operate too, bonus.

(It also encodes Wav, as batch or single file)

uses the L.A.M.E encoder, get it on tucows.

I use CDDA Extractor which uses CDDB2 and supports LAME, blade & Fraunhofer codec - d/load DivX to get that one.

It also has a fast mode codec that it about 25% faster than the others for encoding mp3
