A couple of questions...

Having taken part in last nights game, and had some good fun, a couple of questions have sprung to mind.

I tried a bit of sniping, with a little success, and even scored a couple of hits on running targets (sorry Gumbo :)). I found that these hits were made by 'leading' the target, which is realistic, but want to know if this is the case because of lag, and is therefore very variable, or if it is due to the game engine and is dependant on range.

I suspect the former though it would be nice if the game engine is responsible.

Also, which default key changes your position in a vehicle?

I was just lobbing a few grenades at a tank when Throddy popped up in the turret and machine-gunned me :( Just how many grenades does it take to destroy a tank? (I know this varies with type but a rough guide would be nice)

I D/L DC last night, bu also saw that there was a road to rome DC file, will I need this as well?

Thanks for indulging me in these newbie questions, I really did enjoy it last night, despite my crap score :)

From memory three grenades should be enough if they are full on, as for the changing position thing it is the 1 to whatever (depends on vehicle type) keys which cycle through the positions.

Thanks Bigfoot, I think I had lobbed 3 grenades but the game ended the moment that throddy shot me so I don't know if the last one had gone off or not.

Of course what BF really needs is the ability to run up to and climb on to a tank and lob a grenade down the open hatch :) That would be fun.

It would be a few more than 3 'nades now I'm afraid, they upped the number in 1.3 to more like 5 or 6 now, so one person can't kill a tank with 'nades on their own.

yeah and they made the planes weaker :(.

Which reminds me, Normal BF1942 seems so slow after playing DC non stop for over a week, I jumped in a plane and immediatly noticed the difference.

Oh and dont try capturing a flag by hovering in a spitfire, another mistake I made from my apache flying DC games :).

Like anything when attacking a tank, grenades have more effect if you get them to explode at the rear of the tank.

You can still hurt a tank a lot by having all three go off near the rear.

Its down to the game engine...There is a little variation due to lag, but the SP game requires leading as well.

also take a little time for the scope to settle b4 taking the shot..it takes a second or two for the crosshair to steady properly.

I have never even had the inclination to even load up sp mode :)

Any distance requires leading, the game uses realistic ballistics, a rifle round may not be as slow as a tank shell but it not instant either. Through the scope you are dealing at a very large distance, so you need to lead a lot.

1.3 changed the grenade damager for a tank, the bigger tanks like the Tiger take perhaps a dozen or more to totally kill, I agree with Cdr, you may be able to kill a regular tank (Sherman, Pz IV) by having three go off at the back.

Vehicle positions are the number keys, 1, 2, 3 etc, by default.

I've started playing BF1942 again, until EVE goes live, are the BW servers getting populated now ?

nope, only on the organised nights.

And that should be semi-realistic balistics as there is no bullet drop on the sniper rifles.

I enjoyed the game too RB m8 :)
If you press 1 in a tank you go to driver / gunner position, 2 gets you to be mr. vunerable machine gunner :)

ps. am I the only one that likes BF1942 MUCH better than dc ?

I kinda like BF slightly more than DC, cos of the unbalanced weapons in DC
