Hey All

It's quiet in here but those still playing may have noticed lag last night. It appears that White Noise (WN), Circle of Two (CO2) & Red Overlord (R.O.L) managed to bait NC into a cap fight in 6NJ.

Details are sketchy but it appears as though NC bridged 5 titans with a cap support fleet into 6NJ to try and save a friendly POS. The NC had (allegedly) 120 ish caps, 200 support and 200 in a separate "pet" support fleet.

CO2, WN & R.O.L had a 200man RR BS gang as bait and a few friendly titans with allegedly 17 White Noise supercarriers & 8 titans online in their home system nearby.

As NC landed CO2 left a titan as bait for their cap fleet and as more and more NC loaded grid WN, ROL and CO2 unleashed their dictors.

According to various reports local peaked at over 1000 with around 10 titans per side on the field. Unsurprisingly lag went sky high, whilst the node didn't crash many didn't load grid and the order was given for Super Cap pilots to leave system (According to NC). NC titan pilots reported seeing their destination system load on screen before a number of them crashed. Those who crashed never actually appeared in dest system no matter what their client reported and they were tackled and killed in 6NJ.

In all 6 Titans have been reported as destroyed and 4 supercarriers (1 missing), one of them owned by a friend of mine who joined NC :( (against my advice) around 6 months ago.

I have to say I think it sucks that anyone should lose ships this way but it's hard for me to feel any sympathy for NC as I have faced their "lol blob" tactics on many occasions and I have to admit to feeling a bit smug that their numbers tactics have failed them on this occasion.

With the economy being as it is, I would be stunned if these ships haven't already been replaced (isk wise). The NC has huge cash reserves and I'm sure that this is a setback but little more for their coalition. Whilst I don't like them as an entity they are a stable power house and I doubt that this loss will have any great effect in the long term, short of maybe causing more stand offs in future as neither side of the current conflict risks an encounter like this

Rumours are that CCP are hoping to have improvements to the code aimed at reducing fleet fight lag for release by the end of the month. Fingers crossed I guess.

But it technically didn't fail them tho :)

who knows what would have happened had the node actually handled the numbers...

hopefully it will be a noticable difference, but i cant help but suspecting that as long as there's quadrillion missiles and drones and what have you flying around it just wont do much at all because there's just to much for the server to keep track on.

Improving servers/coding so the present blobs can be handled is nice. However don't you think that once the improvements are done, blobs won't grow to the next size servers aren't able to handle?

Well... the tactic did fail because generally speaking it's a case of lagging the system out and hoping the other side is more affected by lag than them. In this instance it did fail them. In others (notably H-W) it didn't. In the interests of fairness, NC aren't the only people doing this. Southern Coalition are as bad and I've been in fleets when we've literally thrown 6-700 pilots into a system to ensure that anyone jumping in get's humped before they load.

Reno has a point but there were around 6 months before Dominion when everything worked and there was very little lag or managable lag with 1400 combatants in a system. I think we're all hoping that these days return because it's the only way we'll see any real movement amongst the established older alliances who've held the same rich space ad -infinatum..
