As im considering a new PC i was wondering if DAoC will run cleanly on Windows XP 64bit. Would it need re-installation (currently i jsut copy the install locs from PC/laptop etc)

should work flawless, you just don't get the extra 64bit boost cause it's a 32bit application....I just hope you have all the drivers you need to run a 64bit OS, that pwned me the first time :p

Yes well its gonna be all new periperhals anyway and they are gonna be pretty high end so (hopefully) drivers shouldnt be too much of an issue.

I just wanted to make sure XP 64bit was fully backwards compatible.

Still not sure if im gonna go intel or amd. Prolly amd as i only play games on it.

If money was no object what system would u build? inc gfx, ram etc.

its not backward compatible
you will have hell finding drivers for older hardware, and even some relatively new ones.
Daoc also crashed after about 20 mins regardless what you do
dont do it :)

Haha, I wouldn't give my hand for the first one m8 =) I bought a brand new PCI-X RAID controller and no x64 drivers for windows available

Secondly x64 is only backwards compatible regarding applications, so core elements like drivers need to be fully x64 compatible or they won't work.

To the third...if money had been no issue I would've bought 2 Dual Core 3.2Ghz Xeons instead of 2 Single Core 2.8Ghz Xeons and stocked up to 4Gig ram...else...wouldn't have changed a thing =)

Running atm:
-2x 2,8Ghz Intel Xeon (64bit server CPU that is, none of that Athlon bullshit, more like the nice Opterons =) )
-2Gig Kingston DDR-2 400 Ram ECC +Registered (ECC = Erroc Correcting Code, 1bit errors are corrected, saves time cause no need to resend corrupt data)
-SiI 3124 PCI-X (that is PCI 64bit) RAID controller
-Gainward 3400 Gold gfx card (runs with nVidia 7800GT chipset and you can overclock without loosing guarantee =)) )
-Tagan 420W power supply with 2 indipendent 12V sources ( good for the processors )
-ASUS NCT-D board (Socket 604 board ofc, sound onboard cause that's enough for me and well, ASUS is really good quality and they use a very good BIOS aswell)
-Hyundai L90D+ 19" flatscreen, 1280*1024 native ( very fast and bright screen, awesome for gaming, working, watching movies etc. )
-as HDD's I'm using only 2 Western Digital discs with 160gig each, RAID edition ofc....well when I have money again I buy more HDD's =))

so basically I'm very happy with that and if I had to buy a system again right now ( well, my system is 2weeks old or so :p ) I'd buy exactly that, just better Processors and more ram and bigger HDD's.....if I had more money to spend that is =)
