60 fps!

ok so i bought a new comp in the end.....(see other posts!)
my q3 now runs at 106fps WITH EVERYTHING ON!!!!! bloody hell...
however my favourite game, q2 now runs at 59.99 fps .i saw apost on this subject a while ago but cant find it...
i think its cos its syncing every frame with the monitor,but ive clicked the "no" box.anyone know? also the picture on this geforce 2 dont look as good as on my v5,5.is that right also?

This is under win2k with nvidia drivers, but should be similar for other windows, drivers:

If you goto display properties,
click the settings tab and click the advanced button.
click the GeForce DDR tab and click addional properties button.
click the OpenGL settings tab and set vertical sync to always off.

Any other setting will force the vsync on. There is also a registry hack somewhere to force a higher refresh rate, but I can't find it atm!

requiem, i didnt know u could DO a time demo ala q3 for q2. i thought it was just timerefresh. 360 deg spin, then fps that way.what are the commands for demooo1 etc? cheers m8

Thing is, while you may very well get 500 fps in the rl tunnel, thats meaningless.
As while your vid card may output 500fps, you will never EVER 'see' that, as you will only physically see whatever your refresh rate on your monitor is, and i doubt your monitor refreshes at 500Hz

I can get 2000fps in Q2 timerefreshes Funny to see fo' sho'!

In demo1.dm2 in 640x480 I get 200ish FPS so there's something to compare to... PIII 650@820 and GeForce 1 DDR. At 1024*768 = 145 fps. All in 16 bit btw

ok well while we are all still here.....
i ve been using this for a month or so and while turning the vsync off on the gf2 mx does put the fps back up to where it sould be it also flickers quite violently every time i go over a health or pick something up, and tbh it's hurting me poor ol' eyes!
ive tried messing around with most things but the only thing that gets rid of the "flicker" is turning the vsync back on , but then i'm going back to 60 fps!
Is there anyway of increasing the refresh rate or is there some other way of improving things? the mx is a pretty popular card ,i cant think every body's playing like that!
one last thing, it doesn't effect q3 at all wether vsync is on OR off, whys that?

Yes, goto http://www.tweakfiles.com and get something called HZTool. This will allow you to manually specify refresh rates for any resolution, so if you set to 85Hz then your FPS should be 85 too.
