5900 dilema

I have a Creative 5900 Ultra, its a good card but due to all the things happening with the drivers etc that we all know about ive been tempted to accept my losses, sell it on Ebay and get a radeon 9800 pro (maybe the 256 version)

Its a good card but every review i see shows it being beaten by the radeon.

Any suggestions? Is it worth it, will there ever be a good enough set of drivers for it?

Ta chaps and chapettes

Ok for a start Benchmarks ... eeewww

This would be the point where i shout HL2 at you and that would be my point proved but alas i cant :(

Anyway if you do want to get a radeon dont get the 256 meg version of the 9800 pro

Shout Half Life 2 if you like - the so called pure DX9 HLSL shaders which Valve are using were written by ATI themselves, as found in the recent source leak - so the 'performance quandry' seen a few weeks ago isn't all that significant - and with the game delayed til after chrimbo it gives them plenty of time to finally give NVIDIA equal opportunity in optimisation...

As to the rest, compare Max Payne 2 on NVIDIA and ATI hardware... wait for screenshots next week and you'll see what I mean ;)

Still, Id stick with it, benchmarks give me the arse these days Panda. Does it work and look nice ?
Bet its a lot faster than my GF4 ti 4400.
Im wrestling with the idea of buying a 9800 pro, atm, but 2 things are stopping me. One, the price is boundto drop significantly as soon as I buy it, and 2 I keep hoping for a NVidea option. If the 5900 comes down I may buy one of them instead !

I heard that Valve were making HL2 xxrun at a lower res with NVIDIA cards to get the FPS.
I used to buy NVIDIA as a matter of course but I wouldnt give them the time of day at the moment. Their last card just wasnt supported and they seem to like to confuse people with these gimmicky monikers for their cards. At least with ATI they have good driver support and the cards do perform really well with all my games. (I have a 9700 pro and it rocks)xc
