5.1 Audio problem.

I have a GA-7N400-L motherboard which has 6 channel audio.

To turn on 6 channel audio I use a program called "AC97 Audio configuration" which came with the drivers for the motherboard. My problem is, when running some games (Which is mainly all i use the 5.1 sound for) it changes the "AC97 audio configuration" settings down to 4 channel, so then I have to go and change it back! I cant seem to keep it on 6 channel

Games that like 5.1 audio:
-Unreal Tournament
-UT2003

Games that dont:
-Vice City
-Simcity 3000

they're all i've tried, but what's wrong? I want to play vice city with 6 channel audio! What's the problem?

The speakers are "Hercules XPS 5.1 Classic".

Well the new drivers semi worked. It now switches to 4-channel once i leave the game, which means I can play the game with 6-channel audio. But i still have to switch it back.

Another thing, how can I get winamp/windows media player to play through all the speakers? At the moment it only plays through Front Right/Front Left, the fact that it's not usign the subwoofer makes it sound like there is way too much trebel.

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume (tab) > Advanced (in the Speaker settings groupbox), then pick how many speakers you have. This is what I do with XP Pro, SBLive 5.1 and DTT3500 speakers... it should be the same for you, as it's a Windows thing rather than a soundcard thing...

i've got that set correctly, It doesnt help :(

Games and programs that give you the option of how many speakers you have (e.g. Vietcong) seem to use all speakers, how can I make it use all speakers (Not neccecerily surround sound, but just using each speaker...).
