4 player gaming

OK, going shares on a console with my brothers, but there are three of us.
One of them is dead set on getting an XBox, I was with him on this until the Japan thing and I'm now less sure. There's no sight of Peter Molyneaus to save us either.

So, 4 player gaming, XBox and GC are obvious, or I could get an adapter for a PS2.

Erm, what are the GAMES like as far as 4 player support goes. I know the PS2 can do it, but do any games bother with it? Erm, comments?

GC has Waverace which is average 4 player wise.

Super Smash Brothers Melee is superb on 4 player I heard.

Oh, and MarioKart & F-Zero 4 player are bound to be supreme. :)

go with the GameCube. Titles on the X-Box that do multiplayer can sometimes rely on that gay "link" feature (quite frankly something that only a GameBoy can justify having afaic), also if you're going halfs the cube is cheaper & will mean you guys can buy the extra controllers & games without flinching :)

my tupenny worth

right;

at home we now have ps2, dc, xbox, and gamecube.

Dreamcast;
mainly sports orientated 4 player games. 4 controller ports on the console, cheap controllers... could be your thing, especially as it's dirt cheap now.

playstation1/2;
needs a multitap: £20-30. spare controllers quite cheap @ £20.
again, mainly sports games and stuff...
has the possibility of link games too. (good thing).

xbox;
4 controller ports. expensive controllers. but but but;
it's a fucking pc in a box. it's going to have some brilliant multiplayer games... we're talking more serious stuff such as FPS tho, rather than party style games... i'd consider it as a possibility...
especially with the scalability... link xboxes etc etc. oh yeh, also the most promising for internet play.

gamecube;
this is looking like the daddy for multiplayer gaming... going to have sports games, some fps and the fun party style stuff too, no need for multitap... expensive controllers i suppose, but cheaper games... etc.

and yeh. 4 player supermonkeyball /me dribbles.
