Lo peeps. Just thought i'd pop in and say a howdo to you all. I'm still around.

More importantly though, i was browsing through a computer brochure today wondering what could be my next addon when i came across the ELSA 3D REVELATOR. A 2D/3D graphics card with Riva TNT chip, 16mb ram, up to 1920x1200 resolution, 32bit twiN pipeline and 3D GLASSES!!

Has anyone tried this lot out?
Does anyone know what its all about?
And is it worth getting?

Cheers Chaps, see you soon.

nope

But if it's anything like those sunblock glasses then you either a) will have to turn up the brightness an awful lot or b) wont tell the difference at all.

Anywa- why have a TNT when you can have a TNT2 or G400 max? I'm sure ELSE will do glasses for he TNT2 as well

Don't actually owna pair myself m8, sorry.
But what I can gather, u are refering to a tnt1 and a pair of 3d stereo-scopic glasses bundled for a VERY NICE price of £80.
Well er if you like to wear a pair of geeky looking glasses which would flicker at a very uncomfortable refresh rate then yeah go ahead

. Basically its the old red and green concept, u remember from comics etc, where images would appear to jump out at you.
The tnt1 is getting on now and u would be wiser to invest in a more capable card, depending on what system you. That said u can pick up the glasses only for around 50 quid, the catch, they will only work with an elsa video card.
There are alternatives, noteably metabytes wicked3d range(www.metabyte.com) for ANY voodoo2 based cards, and Asustek do a bundle similar to the elsa one but with a more powerful tnt2, video capture etc, and also a heftier price tag!

Note all this technical 3D stero-scopic wizardry comes at a performace hitting cost..

I've got one of those Wicked 3d Things connected to my Voodoo 2. I think its the same as the one you're on about - the glasses look identical.

They're a bit weird really. Some of the 3d effects are really good - especially the rail gun. I've taken them off now for a number of reasons. Firstly, it completely f***s up your open gl. It installes its own version which means you can't go back to your 'normal' set up. This also affects other games as well. They also make your eyes really sore after more than a few minutes.Absolute nightmare for clan/deathmatches - the graphics are so different that you sometimes struggle to see people properly. I'm crap anyway, and can really do without that as well !!

Initially, they give a really weird sensation (I wouldn't say immersive !), but once the novelty has worn off, they are a bit of a pain.

My advice - save you £80 and put it towards a TNT2 !

Cheers

Cheers chaps, thats a great help. I think i'll stick with my Voodoo2 card.
Next question for you all are to do with DVD RAM drives. Fair enough i understand that these things can read DVD's and normal CD's. But what about writing capabilities. Can they write music and normal data as well as DVD's or solely DVD's. Reason i ask is cause i've only got one IDE slot left but i'm lacking a DVD and a CDRW. I'm hoping the DVD RAM would answer my prayers.
