360 Wireless adapter

Can I use any USB wireless adapter or does it have to be the specific 360 one?

360 specific one iirc, it uses a special Microsoft protocol for communication.

I've read plenty of threads asking this some say they have managed to get USB adapters working, personally when I tried it I couldn't get it working.
