2xDAOC (SI) on this computer?

Hi!

Is it possible to run two copies of SI at the same time using DAOX (or better yet, 1.60 when that arrives - then I won't be doing something I shouldn't) on this configuration?

CPU: AMD1500XP
GFX: GeForce3
RAM: 512MB
OS: WinXP

Since it appears that SI can run on 256MB alone, my instincts are telling me that it should be possible... I just shouldn't expect stellar performance or anything... which is fine, since I'm not doing this to drag a buffbot into a relic raid or something like that. My plan is to use this setup for serious hardcore crafting (to the benefit of all those who can't find someone willing to craft) and muling resulting products without having to rely on other people... and of course the ever so often buffbot in a remote area when my hunter can't find a group. Yes, I don't like the concept of buffbots, but it's either going to be that or playing a non-archer, thanks to Mythic and the allmighty nerfbat.

as far as i've heard you need a minimum of 512mb ram to run 2 copies on 1 pc. you seem to have that so it should work.

aye afaik you will just be able to run daoc directly and specify to run it in a window. so daox is probably still classed as naughty ;)

1.60 (afaik) allows u to run DAoC in Windowed mode and to run multiple account's (not chars on the same acct). But i'm sure thie windowed mode is for ppl who play through the SI client..

Not sure about the multiple copy running.

Even with 1.60 there's a restriction on 2 accounts on same comp uless you have more than 512Mb.

DAOCWin (a newer version of DAOX) will allow you to play 2 accounts with less memory.

I thought the 512 was just a recommendation :)

512mb is the minimum recommended amount of memory. A lot more is better. :)

I play 2 accounts on this computer:

Athlon 1.4
512 ram
GeForce 4 4200 128MB
XP Pro
ADSL

It sucks

Bigtime

The lag is unreal. Not sure which bit needs to be upgraded to improve things. My guess would be processor, as some client apps are real processor-cycle hoovers. I'd be grateful for anyone running 2 clients on one box (single processor) with a modest degree of playability posting their specs here.

Can anyone confirm if its just the SI client that will be able to be run in windowed mode or original client also?

Im sure ihheard somewhere it was only SI that could be. Gonna mean getting SI on second account also if not.

considering window mode is due out soon why use illegal tools :p

Because they make the game more fun for me. I can switch in and out of Camelot when I want. I appreciate that I'm breaking the CoC etc etc etc, but I would hope that GOA are more concerned with people who actively cheating / hacking.

As you say, they are about to deliver a version which makes the use of this particular illegal tool unnecessary. So its not exactly crime of the century is it? Oh and I'll still need the tool for my non-SI account to play in a window - could I be banned for that do you think?

Out soon != Out now :)

The way I see it is that as they're changing the game to allow windowed mode there's nothing fundamentally wrong with using it. Why wait?

According to the DAOCWin page you may still need to use such a tool, even after 1.60, if you want to run two accounts with less than 512Mb.

What he said. :(
Athlon XP1600+, 1GB ram, GF4 4400 128mb, w2k, scsi hds and dsl here and lags like hell.
Works ok if you lower the priority of the bot task in the task manager, but tends to go ld for no reason everynow and then

I find if you set the processor priority on your bot account to lower and minimize this window, it seems to free up a few more processor cycles.

Try setting the processor to normal or also lower on the your main account. Depends on the spec of your machine I guess.

Mine runs smooth as anything like this EXCEPT sometimes the sound on the bot account judders (which is easily fixed as I just turn it off :) )

Inqy, would you care to tell us your system specs, since you're able to run things smoothly? Would be nice to know what it takes :)

Having two accounts is fucking lame, and just points to either bedridden/crippled (apologies if this applies to you), or not enough friends and imagination to fill the time more constructively.

Why the hell does ANYONE need a second account? what secret is unlocked on the activation of your second one? Are us normal players, the ones without any DAoX or Radar or Bot, missing out only having the one account?

s'funny how so many LGM crafters managed it without a second account, s'funny how long people got buy without a bot, s'funny how i seem to be able to log off once in a while, so i can socialise and see my mates or go out and have fun... seems i may be old fashioned.. best go out and get me a second copy right away...

I'd guess the Athlon 1.4 is the problem. It seems to be the only one that is significantly low compared to the rest.

Athlon XP1600+, 1GB ram, GF4 4400 128mb, w2k, scsi hds and dsl here and lags like hell.

Not sure about this one though. Maybe it's something to do with those GF4's, or something to do with the Athlon's? *quits trying to spot trends*

Yes it works, slight lag tho, depending how monsterish ur pc is to makeup for the hideously poor code if SI, how about running 1 SI client and 1 Classic, works pretty much perfectly

"erm, the above was tested errr on the us servers with 1.60 windowed mode? err yeah that sounds good"

Well, personally, I have two accounts because I have the cash but don't have the time. It took a year of real life to get Trine to 50, mostly because I only get to play for an hour or so here and there. My second account has a bunch of casters who I can buff up with Trine's PoC and solo without any significant down-time.

When you only have an hour to play it's pretty lame to spend half of it watching your toon sitting and regenerating. By buffing I might one day have more than one character I can RvR with. Had Mythic implemented a more casual-friendly down-time mechanic I probably wouldn't have considered a second account.

I don't play any more DAOC per week than I did (approx 10 hours), and my social life is pretty unaffected by my new account.

From my perspective it's not lame it's a better use of my time.

Well, you get to play the 3rd realm without having to deal with the PvP server or learn another language like German/French :)

As for the rest, I think Trine explained it quite nicely.

Personally I use two accounts most of the time. My main is a lvl 50 cleric and has been used on occasion to help my alts on the other account level. I also use it to craft with while playing the other account. When grouping with one char I often solo on the other account during the downtime points e.g. find a camp of mobs with my theurgist. During downtime on the other account use entire mana bar to kill stuff and sit regening while my other account is played etc.

As I rarely RvR and then only really for Albion realm defence or keep raids you won ever see my cleric afk in a PK so from that point of view I don't see it as a bot. Especially as it's the cleric I normally RvR with when I do.
