Sacrilege!
Blasphemy!!
HERESY!!!

It's not a shit movie.
Look at the number of BttF vids on YT to see how popular it still is. Even my daughter likes it and she's 11. :)

Zen, whilst I totally agree with that BttF is a great movie I do have to say that popularity is no measure of quality.

Look at X-Factor ffs

Or Avatar :p

It's popular to bash it, but it was by no means a bad film.

Story was solid if unspectacular and quite predictable but if you look at it in terms of being an action movie and compare it like for like with films of its ilk, it stands up well.

It's also popular to love it, but it wasn't that amazing. The story, while enough for an action movie, was nothing spectacular and the 3D bits even weren't that mindblowing.

It's a shame when you see better action scenes in red vs blue then you see in modern cinema ;)

Then again, red vs blue kicks so many layers of arse that it's no surprise.

Yeah i know, it rivals most of matrix fight scenes even. Hell, it's more entertaining and fun then any of 'em :p

Red v Blue? Halo Comic designed for a very specific audience (hence being able to cater better for them)?

I mean, it's not as if Avatar was aimed solely at gaming geeks was it?

Edit: Now I know about it I'll prolly watch it tho ;)

You'd think red vs blue is aimed for a spesific set of people, but i for one never cared for Halo and find it one of the best comedy series around, including TV :p

If you start watching it, mind you first two season aren't exactly "high quality" on the ent as they were just starting with the thing. Latest revelation series(three seasons) are simply ridicilous fun though.

Anyhoo, the point was more towards the lack of imagination and action in modern cinema, rather then the superiority of RvB.

It's aimed at gamers. FPS gamers at that.

Avatar's aimed at everyone. By its very nature as an "event" movie it needed a solid story (which it's got - it's by no means bad). The 3D was, obviously, the best ever achieved.

I think Cameron hit all the targets tbfh. It was certainly better than Shiteanic and tbh, for a kids film, probably better than Terminator 2 - which was aimed at a more adult audience.

It's not "art" tho. Too commercial in its objectives. But for a film that had commercial objectives at its heart I think Cameron pulled some magic out of his arse, again. :)

Well the gamers part i can agree on, partly, because it's really just a sci-fi comedy series when you get down to it. Afterall, i for example don't know the halo world etc(atleast to any "target" degree. FPS doesn't really come into it either, atleast i didn't notice any distinct difference in it, say, compared to starship troopers being FPS targeted.

Avatar story is ok enough, as a rehashed story that is, and for an action movie.

If it wasn't for the 3D though, speculating a bit, i doubt it would've been that amazing for people.

The 3D effect was nice, but no carrying factor. It's an amazing step in 3D technology(not animation tech mind you, the animation wasn't really great), but that's about it. If you only compare it with it's own merits, story, acting, etc it's not AS, note, AS amazing as people make it out to be.

I'd agree with that.

Its worth watching it simply for the 3D alone IMO. Never had such a sense of scale from a film before. Some of the big stuff was really impressive to look at - it made you feel like you were looking at something huge rather than just gong "look at that huge thing".

But the thing that made me feel the most was the size of the humans next to the blue catpeople. We just looked so frail and small - made me feel super-aware of my own body in a way I'd not thought about it before. For that reason alone I think the 3D was worth it.

I'm sorta one for writing the tech off - it doesn't improve the quality of the writing. But thinking about it now, maybe there is something too it after all. Perhaps we're just using it wrong?

Or the iPhone.... which isn't that popular when I think about it versus RIM, Symbian and Android.
