Youll most likely need a better computer. Does your system support hyper threading or have more than one CPU?

One thing that is reasonalby affordable would be to pick a bare bones style system that could double as your secondary account and also perhaps as a utilities/firewall PC. This will let your main PC concentrate on running games! You can keep the cost down by using a KVM switch. ( you hook to base units up to the unit, then the unit hooks up to your monitor, keyboard and mouse (KVM) ). When you want to switch PC's you just flick a switch or use a keyboard shortcut.

Before doing this i got some performance improvement by turning off all pre-caching to help free memory, switching off textures and running it in 800X600.

In 1.70 we get a utility called /clientsleep. This command stops the game trying to render the gfx on a screen thats either minised or in the back ground. Therefore freeing up the resources to the main screen and allowing simple alt/tab between accs.

Oh, and its free :)

best way imo is to get ur hands on a 2nd computer, it doesn't have to be state of the art and thus does not have to be verry expensive.

Any feedback on how good client sleep is? very interested to know. Can you run both clients (or at least your main client) with full settings okay? Still might need 1gb memory?

An added bonus of having a second PC is using it to play games while you craft :O (tho the KVM switch wouldnt be too good for this)

Goto task manager in windows, set the priority for both game.dlls to low.

By default your main window is grabbing all the processing power, leaving not enough for your other account. Setting both to low will have a net result of sharing processing between them, so mr buffbot doesnt lag too much.

Yeah tried this but had terrible results. Other process on the PC were taking away precious clock cycles from both the DAOC processes.

thanks for all your replies and helpful tips.

will wait until NF comes out and try the /clientsleep.
if it still sucks, will buy my new pc sooner rather than later :)

Would not recommend setting priorities to low, but if it works for you, then ok
And yea, wait for clientsleep, worked for me in the start.
