How would the following system handle running 2 accounts?

AthlonXP 2600+
768MB DDR
GeForce 3 ti200

It could be either SI/ToA OR SI/SI.

It would handle okay...but chances are you wouldn't be able to keep your buffbot on stick. I have a very similar system and there isn't much lag using 2 accounts but I am not able to put my BB on stick. Usually I leave her in one place and hunt at a quick spawning camp or I am forced to alt-tab between the two accounts furiously in order to be able to drag her from one place to another...which is very tedious. ;)

if u want u bb on stick, get 1gb ram and DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT USE WIN2K if u want to run 2 accounts, it simply lag to much.
me self use win2k (nerf winxp cd not working), adi raedon 9700 xt (1 of the best on the market), 2,4 pentium 4 and got 1gb pc2700 ram and i cant put bb on stick.
a friend of mine got a very similar system but he use winxp and he can w/o problems put bb on stick (and it r not lagging)

I run 2 accounts (Toa) and get them to /stick fine.

And Win2K is the OS

What makes the difference with running two accounts on my PC is that i have a P4 3gz Hyperthreading processor.

If you have HT it allows the pc to run two instances of the game much better and sticking one char to another is fine.

Also if you intend to run 2 accounts its a good idea to beef up your ram to 1024

Your system should handle 2 accounts fine. I'm able to run 2x TOA and stick buffbot on me with the following comp spec:

AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz
768MB RAM
GeForce3 Ti200
WinXP

I tried running 2 accounts during ML6 in a 7-8fg zerg, but that didn't work. :(

I can run 2 accounts OK apart from the stick problem, which is a major annoyance. It used to be OK until one of the recent-ish patches (possibly foundations patch - not sure exactly as I was out of the game for a while). It definitely used to work with SI as I only bought my second account when SI was released. Something in a recent patch has broken it - I'm sure the game.dll didn't always keep the CPU at close to 100% as it does now.

From what I've been able to work out the stick problem occurs if:

1. You are running WinXP or Win2K (Win98/ME seem fine)
2. You have a processor which doesn't have hyper-threading

It basically comes down to how Windows handles multiple processes and sharing the processor cycles. There is a registry hack that you can use which apparently will improve the stick problem but causes lag in normal use. One guy uses reg hack short-cuts on his desktop to switch between running and normal. Details here: http://vnboards.ign.com/Tech_Tavern/b20934/65024592/?25. I've not tried this myself.

If you have problems running 2 accounts and stick...try setting both game.dll to low priority that should fix the problem with stick

here's a trick I used when running 2 ToA accounts on my Athlon 1.4Ghz, 1gig RAM and GF3 Ti200.

Get the two instances going then hit ctrl+alt+delete. In the "Processes" tab find the two "game.dll" entries, right click on them and chose Set Priority -> Low. Do that for BOTH of them. Can get bot to stick fine after that (though watch out for uber laggy areas like major cities/havens in ToA).

note: the above worked with Win XP Professional, I don't know about other OSs though.

Setting both to low priority really makes things sluggish and less stable in my experience.
