2-3gig download for patches before OB?

The patch notes are not under NDA for 4.1 aparently they will be postwed on war-europe at some point if not already on there.

The news says the client is 12GB but I have only downloaded 9.4GB. Am I missing something?
No you’re not. The downloader itself is downloading compressed files which will be a little smaller and there will be additional downloading available during Open Beta. These are largely localised Voice Over files which will make up the remaining 3GB or so.

Thats going to be painfull for those of us on 2mb with Virgin. Soon as they can tell we are using any bandwidth we are throttled down to 0.5-1mb

Just to let you folks know, we have been in contact with GOA who have confirmed that we are expecting there to be an additional download to patch the client ready for the beta. They have agreed that if possible FreddysHouse will be able to get a copy of the patch file slightly in advance to be able to set this up for another FH torrentfest so stick around with us for all the best stuff

Nice - my key concern at the moment is that we're not going to be able to enter our codes, log in and download the patch before Sunday evening...

As soon as the starter's pistol is fired and open beta begins, I wanna be logging in and creating characters - not kicking off a 3GB patch download and going to sleep for work the next day!

Even with 20MB there is the STM, but that only cuts in after a 5GB download during 10-3pm & 4-12pm

I now suspect that rather than have to get this additional patch BEFORE open beta starts, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the open beta before this is released as it is not essential to running the client software, and get the patch at a more leisurely pace after the beta opens....

Yours find its around 3gig so you will be cutting it close but then when you get cut back the speed is still ok.

Jup is correct. The 3GB patch is optional content (additional voice packs mostly) that we will not be rolling out before the start of the Open Beta. You won't have to download anything else if you already have the client from the site. if you have a client from the closed beta then there will of course be a fairly hefty patch but you'll pull this through the ingame patcher as normal.
