My dog had some cut on her tail. It scabed up, she waged it, the house was full of blood :p.

We took her to the vets, they put some thing on her tail and instead of chewing the bandages/plastic thingies off, she waged her tail and it all flew off before we left the vets. The vet had the cheak to say 'I won't charge you for that' :(

She had to have her tail docked in the end because it wouldn't heal :(

This has no relevence to the thread, apart from the vet link but ah well :D

I do feel really guilty tho, her normal 'MIAAAAAOOOOOOWWWWrrrrrrrrrr' is now a pathetic 'meeh', she is obviously very sore and cant be arsed to move anywhere, not helped by the fact that she is wearing a lampshade that i had to cut down as the vet only had 12cm ones when she is supposed to have a 10 cm sized one. At least she has stopped trying to get it off, tho that was hilarious, imagine the above pic with 2 legs sticking sticking out aswell.

The vet said 14 days ideally but a week may be enough, its just to stop her licking the stitches out of her gaping wound, she has tried tho but jumps around in pain when she does. Does anyone know when i can take it off before the week is out? Anyone had their cat spayed? Please? :(

Both of my kitten's internal bits go to the great litter tray in the sky later this month.

Should be fun watching them try and jump through the cat flap with buckets on their heads.

Trust me the hilarity will ensue.... Till the guilt kicks in.

I think our cats wore them for about 2 days at which point they were just not staying on, they were mobile enough to just pull them off. One of the cats removed a few stitches but it was after the wound had started to heal and could hold itself together. Try leaving it on as long as you can bear it and if you must take it off sooner than 2 or 3 days, just keep an eye on her and discourage her when she tries to lick or bite at the stitches. A weeks worth of hassle with the collar is a helluva lot better than god knows how much hassle when you've got 6 kittens to look after.

*edit* heh, just rmembered, when they were being spayed, they discovered one of the cats was already pregnant, so they added on another 20 quid or so to the already extortionate price to cover the abortion!. "hi, she was pregnant. we killed them. that'll be a wad more cash pls!". tards.

Leave it on as long as possible.. when I had my cats kitten done she could easily escape the collar so we tried to keep her inside and deter her from removing it..

It's important that your cat doesn't open the wound as it means probably more money for you and far more pain for the cat... she'll get used to it and once it's healed she'll be fine although even then she may lick it the wound will be healed enough to survive..

Strange... my cat had to stay at the vet for a day, but when I took her home she didn't have to wear the lampshade.

Our kitties didn't need the lampshade thing either. As I recall they stayed over night at the clinic and when they came home they were a bit whacked out for a week or so but they didn't have any trouble with their scabs. The tom cat was allowed home the same day as his op and he just sat around the house with a look of 'dude, you cut off my balls...i will not forget this day!' on his face. I don't think he ever forgave us for that.
