Seriously Sh33p you're having problems sleeping? Cut all the sugar out of your diet. I mean ALL of it (your body has no requirement for sugar). Give it 3-4 days, you'll be sleeping like a log.

I recommend stopping drinking coffee. When I can't sleep, I stop drinking the free coffee at work. Getting to 10pm without going to sleep is real killer when I do that, but at least its the reverse of my usual problem where I find myself sitting up at 3am trying to get to sleep.

Don't eat sugar much Tommy. My diet is a bit lean these days full-stop.

And as for coffee... I have tea sometimes, but not coffee (I take tea without sugar these days - so still no sugar).

Maybe that's it? I need to start eating whenever I'm hungry and not just light up or find a bar to drink?

The smokey stuff works for me, and I drink 20ish cups of coffee a day. Alternatively a good session of body fluid transfer tends to help :)

Caffine stimulates your blood sugar level, which stimulates insulin production. It increases blood circulation, increases thought speeds, and so on. Tea has about 1/3 - 1/2 as much caffine as coffee. You can get decaf coffee and decaf tea.

Also try cutting down on your carb intake - if you are eating lots of bread, rice, and pasta, this will have a detrimental effect on your blood sugar level, and will also make you fat. Eat more fish, meats, and cheeses.

Cut out the sugary drinks - drink fizzy water, its what I do.

Its actually quite difficult to cut out carbs though...you'd be surprised how much you actually eat.

If you want to cut your Carb intake, just stop eating cereal, bread, pasta, and rice (not completely, just cut it right back).

Vegetables are great. Fruit is great too, but berries are the best. Apples and Oranges taste nice but they send you on a sugar high, and rot your teeth. Strawberries hardly have any sugar, and taste fantastic (raspberries blackberries and blueberries have slightly higher levels of sugar).

Wheat and Rice are very high in Carbohydrates, which is why they make such great staple foods. But eating too much (bread and pasta are made from flour) will certainly make you gain weight. Briefly, this is how it works:

. Fuel for human body = Carbohydrates and Fat
. Body eats too many Carbs = increased blood sugar, more insulin production, more glucose to the fat cells = you get fatter
. Body eats too few Carbs = stable blood sugar, regular insulin production, body runs out of carbs, starts using fat reserves
. Body eats balanced diet = you live longer

Now here's the killer = Eating fat does not make you fat

And if you don't believe that, there has never been any study, anywhere, that has managed to link the eating of fat to coronary heart diesese. FACT.

FYI, my diet consists of bacon and eggs breakfast, tuna salad lunch, any meat/fish dinner, sugar free jelly & double cream or berries and double cream.

And no, I'm no porker. I'm perfectly fit and healthy, with very low levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

Fair enough, but i knew the stuff about mono and poly fats.

What I meant earlier about finding it hard to reduce carb intake was finding a substitute. Its easy enough to identify the carbs wee eat, it's just a bit harder to replace them. High fibre foods like vegs usually do the trick but there is only so much stuff from the mud that you can eat ;)
