Not bad for a game that according to most fell on its arse, 12 million copies sold that's a 25% retention for a game nearly year old and has had no new area content since?

When's the expansion?

On another note I logged in recently and totted up how much me and the wife made on the RMAH close to £735, mental.

25% retention is far less than they wanted. Not a disaster by any means but I doubt they are happy.

Not saying its a fix but as a player and not a head up arse dev what I would have done from the start is

allowed offline play
allowed mod support but reserved the right to ban anymods they felt were cheating/ruining gameplay
gave proper chat channels from the start
dumped the ah+rmah, part of the fun in d2 was trading, can't deny it and if you don't agree the chances are you didn't play d2 properly - sure people use the rmah but I guarantee more people still use third party sites to trade items (I know of one forum that specialises in such activity to bypass the rmah and its fee's)
made legendary items more significant from the start, no runewords still but legendary items should have always been better than unique items to a degree
got rid of utterly pointless stats rather than trying to incorporate them into skills like gold pickup, health globe pickup - this would have made it slightly easier to roll better items /people a tad happier
made more skill/runes available like they initially planned, dumbing the game down for dribbling retards was possibly the worse thing they could have done for d3, they speak of build diversity but at the moment there are maybe 1-3 viable builds for every single class when it comes to farming high monster powers (so much for diversity)

I don't agree on the mods, wow has mods and some of those mods are just boarderline cheating, and D2 trading was horrible it hinged on meeting a trust worthy player who doesn't run off with those items and never see them again, had it happen too many times. Of course a trade window which is already in D3 would be fine.

Offline play would result in more cheaters and people with characters that have been modded.

I think people forget just how fucking famous D2 was for hacking and cheating.

Offline play made Diablo, it was never a truly online game to me. It was a game where I'd sit on a train and mess about doing Pindle or Baal runs.

D2 was famous for hacks and cheats yes, but what game isn't? D3 with DemonTools such isn't....

You don't get mod support then clearly, I suggest you try MedianXL for D2 and tell me you don't support mods, i'm not talking about addons that play the game for you like WoW's do.

MedianXL is/was pretty much D3 for me, it turned D2 on it's head and added loads of new elements to pretty much make it a new game. Most fun I'd had in ages on my 'zon on that.

Mods like MedianXL deserve to be seen, the only reason Blizzard didn't allow mod support was because of the stupid fucking RMAH they wanted to milk. They need to add mod support for Diablo III badly.

Agreed, same for Eastern Sun, both were fantastically made mods that made D2 a new game completely, as any mod should. A mod to draw D3 back to a more classic route would be immense.

As said ever before; offline is fine if they're kept completely out of online.

Only caveat.

If the mods are used in offline play it's none of their fucking business if it's a cheat mod or not.

As long as you can't use your offline toon online that is.
