1.79 and Catacombs

1.79 features the epic quest / armor improvements mainly. But do you require the Catacombs expansion to be able to complete the new epic? As I've read most of it is instanced, and instancing was introduced with Catacombs...

it all take place in classic area and as you can do the epic quest in toa client you dont need catacombs
