Hi all,

Me and a few friends have recently recorded a song onto the computer using a regular microphone, i was wondering if anyone knew any software which would allow us to edit it, add base or add a beat to it. Or just change bits around. The software needs to be free though, if anyone could help can you give me a URL please.

Cheers.

Soundforge is also worth a look:

Demo version

My God! All the sound editing appz are being bought by other companies. I went hunting the link... it was owned by Sonic Foundry for ages, and I see Adobe have acquired Cool Edit. Weird.

Try Audacity. It's free and supports VST plugins so you'll have no problems with editing. Be aware that if you've not multitracked it you'll have problems with editing individual parts.

Neither Audacity or Sound Forge work on bars/beats so integrating a beat may be difficult depending on your musical knowhow but CE has a global tempo and loop function that can be used fairly quickly to throw together a basic beat.

cool edit pro with multi track kicks some rather nice bottom for the more raw editing. If what your after is a more sequence based typerthang then perhaps Fruityloops would be your cuppa tea, it has limites sound file editing and EXCELLENT arranging facilities for sorting samples loops, and its also got a rather nice drum machine built in, costs a shit load tho :( My bro has it for work so i er borrow it occasionally for educationaly purposes only you understand ;)

Shit, Alias Wavefront StudioTools costs $26000! $149 is bollock all, considering what it can do (you said yourself how great it is).

Considering what a lowly 8-track reel to reel tape recorder used to cost, without even mentioning a full 2 inch 24 track machine, the controller, the media, $149 is unbelieveably cheap.
