LinkDead Problems.

Have posted this before, but didn't manage to fix it, it's really pissing me off now so really need it fixed.

Here's the problem:

When I do (which seems to be long-distant) ports in-game, my screen freezes and I get red L (Latency) followed by red P (Ping) then of course, link dead. It's not a normal LD, as when I press ESC at the 'you have gone link dead, press ESC to exit the game' etc, it doesn't do anything for about 15~ mins depending on luck. After/If I managed to get back to the desktop, my computer completely freezes every 5-10 seconds. The only way to get it working again is to restart my computer, and doing this everytime I encounter the problem is obviously doing it no good, and causing me problems in-game.

When exactly does the problem occur?

As stated before, it seems to be when porting long distances, here are some examples of times this problem has occured.

Porting using the Djinni stone to havens.
Releasing to ToA havens.
Releasing from places OUTSIDE of 'Isle of Glass' to gothwaite.
Porting from outside Castle Sauvage to a keep in the frontiers.

Happens when doing all kind of things like this, never seems to happen when releasing to housing, though.

This is a DAoC-only related problem, as any other online/sp games I play I have no such problems like this.

Last time I posted this I got responses like, "Got the latest drivers etc?" which yes, I have. Latest drivers, DirectX, etc etc. Also had a reply saying "Update your network card drivers". This has also been done, so has a full reinstall of DAoC.

Any help appreciated, I can't keep playing with this problem, as everytime I go to an ML raid, they start at havens, so I have to LD to get there the night before. Also when going to help in keep defence, I LD and have to restart my computer to get back.

Well, it has to be something that's screwed up on your system.

Have you checked for spyware?
Anything in memory that is hogging resources?
Kill anything that doesn't need running.
Defrag.
Make sure your drive isn't full. :)
Reinstall.

Maybe that helps.

Checked for Spyware, nothing.
Hardly anything taking up memory.
Defrag? I don't see how that would help? :)
Drive is not full.
Reinstall what? DAoC or my computer?

Problem fixed!

Seems that the last 'update' of my network drivers did NOT work. Seing as my floppy disk drive is now screwed, I downloaded the latest driver, burned it onto a CD, and installed it from there, this has solved the problem.

I have the exact same problem, and I mean really exact. :)

Gonna try and update my drivers when I get home and see if it makes any difference, as this is causing alot of problems for me in NF when I practically have to reboot whenever I release to a keep or teleport to a keep. :( :(

Hehe, I didn't think anyone else did have the problem, thats one of the reasons it was really annoying. Which network card you using? I use a NETGEAR FA311

Thats the problem right there.

Netgear NIC´s.
D-Link are also a daoc problem.

i have helped on a number of posts where i pointed out the NIC´s as the problems. I have reason to believe that 60% or more of the LD´s on ports are related to crappy network card brands.

You may think your problem is solved but i am not so shure.

Give it a lil time, i cannot dowload with bittorrent with my D-link Gigabit cards for example not even with the latest drivers that are supposed to make it stable when many open sockets.

I suggest intel network cards. i have sworn to satan allmighty that i will not ever buy anything but Intel nics.
(+10euro on price of a lowcost nic)

I am gonna check my NIC today when I get home. I didnt have time to look it up yesterday as my gf came over after work, but will definatly have a look at it tonight. I think its either a Netgear or D-Link card.

For the Netgear ones, try installing the drivers on the Netgear site. Windows XP will tell you they are older than their current ones, but if you force it, it'll work, and seems to cure the problem. I had this too when it first came out (found the solution on the US Camelot site, I believe).

Yepp, updated Firmware of my Netgear NIC last night, seems to have worked like a charm so far. Teleported several times in NF with not ever computer starting to freeze and go LD like it previously did.

Like mentioned in a earlier post if you have Netgear, XP whines and you wont be able to automatically update the driver, but you can force it manually.

btw Afran my card was a FA311 also. :)

is it just me or did the driver setup seem really stoneage? :)

Hi, just quick post to say i was getting the same problem with my MSI mobo embedded network card, after reading posts here disabled the git and put in a PCI card and i havent LD at all since.. i will say never had a problem before.. something changed in the game code to cause this PC is the same and no issues with anything else.

You get funny things sometime. My onboard NIC will do everything except internet sharing. The Netgear one did that, but not teleporting in DAoC, until the drivers were 'downgraded'.
