Earlier mentioned Graveworm have made some nice covers in there time yeah. A black metal band that does'nt take themselves that serious. :eek6: I mean I dont think we are gonna see Mayhem make a Pet Shop Boys cover anytime soon.

Opeth has made a few, Soldier of Fortune, Circle Of Tyrants and Remember Tomorrow are really nice.

The best example of a horrible song turned great gotta be Jose Gonzáles version of The Knife - Heartbeats. Horrible synthish pop turned lovely acoustic guitars pop. Funny thing is Jose's own work does'nt have the same excellent pop writer talent and it's his best song imo. Kinda sad when your best is a cover isnt it? :D ( oh, and yes they are swedish artists so dont feel ashame if you didnt recognize em)

No offence but Dimmu Borgir's cover of Burn in Hell is cringeworthy. :)

(see - I know my Black Metal now. I like Darkthrone for it's basicness, the operatic stuff gets on my tits a bit :))

Outkast - Favourite Things... 4tehwinn \o/

Cake - I Will Survive. A lesson in how to turn a shit song into a great one.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - I Believe I Can Fly. See above.
Mad Caddies - Build Me Up Buttercup. This is getting a tad repetitive.
Faith No More - Easy. Great for two reasons. 1) Patton's voice. Who on earth thought he could croon like a proper Vegas cabaret singer? 2) It was recorded to make their guitarist leave the band. Which he did. Skills.

The song itself was sung during the origonal mash film as part of an "assisted" suicide attempt.

Superb song.

I rather like A Perfect Circle's cover of John Lennons 'Imagine'

Which can be heard: Here

But that might be slightly influenced by my 'fanboi-ness' for Tool/APC.

Totally agree with the Jonny Cash and Jeff Buckley suggestions already made - I'd also add Elbow's cover of Massive Attack's Teardrop (short excerpt: [WMP] )

It was on the chart-compatible (i.e. 2-track) CD single of "Not A Job", which came out in February. I'm trying to track a copy down at the moment.

Its sad that José Gonzales covers are his best songs. Heartbeats is already mentioned but his versions of Joy Divisions Love will tear us apart is great and his version of Bruce Springsteens Born in the USA aswell.
